Anyone have a technique for removing spray paint from brick?

Granny's house was hit, gotta find a way to clean it off so the place can be sold.

I had a shop once with brick walls, I lived there 3 years, then one day the bastards hit. I used my small sand blaster with 30 mesh sand, and it came off. depends what condition the bricks are in, you might want to fade it out when blasting...

Mike, if it's not hit to bad maybe spraying a solvent on it to soften it up and then a pressure washer. Pressure washer for sure and maybe you would'nt even need the solvent. Sam

It was tagged pretty good, the whole side of a garage.

The brick is in good shape, old and weather-stained though. Blasting it might open more headaches.

I'll let my uncle know to try a good pressure washer on it and see how it goes.

Thanks folks!

Too bad it was family members that did it!

I have been dealing with tags for the past 15 years. I found the best product to use is Graffiti Master Products. I remove about a dozen or more every year and this gets about 95- 98% of the tag off. Do not use solvent or hardware spray cans of remover you will only lock the tag into the brick. You spary it on with a spray bottle and srub with a stiff brush or wire brush then preasure was off. it might take a few applications but it has always worked for me and I have removed tags that cover the whole side of a school.

sprayway also makes a graffiti remover but I would be cautious on old brick as you may experience discoloration, test in a small unnoticeable area before hitting the whole area regardless of what method you use. I have also had good results with sandblasting but as noted above discoloration...

I like MrMc's idea . . .I think brick looks good painted . . .

Family members vandalized their own granma's house???!!! [Eek!] What was their excuse for THAT!!!

I've removed some small stuff with laquer thinner and a wire brush . . . but I too think a large area would probably be moved quicker with properly controlled light sand-blasting.

You could also use that thick-gel paint-stripper. It's cheap, available at Wal-Mart. Spray on let sit and use a regular garden hose and sprayer to rinse off. [Wink]

Shiela, basically what happened is granny bought the place and one of her daughters + her family (hubby, two mostly grown sons) moved in. They had a nice arrangement.

Eventually one son had a kid (he was 25, at least he wasn't 16) and his girlfriend moved in. Full house. They (one son, his kid and g/f) ended up moving out and into their own place because the place was too full.

Some time goes by. there's some more freeloading, Granny decided she wants to move into an indendent living home so she gives em the option to buy the place or get booted out! They chose to get booted.

Well, now all the ruckus has moved in with the son that moved out and ain't no one happy about it. It's getting pretty "Jerry Springer" over there and because they're such thugs they can't be bothered with discussing anything, instead they resort to petty retaliations.

Hey!! Mabey you could get that on one of those shows . . . Montel or Jerry or somethin' . . . they might give you some money to have it all done . . . [Razz]

I can just hear ol' Montel now:

"So Mike . . . or Pimp . . . . some people call you Pimp right?? Ok . .. Well, after all this stuff you've had to go thru, with this house and all this vandalism - Boom-bada-bing-bada-BANG - YOU are stuck with this mess to clean up -right?
We've got a little surprise for you . . . we're gonna PAY to have the house cleaned just to show you how much we appreciate you being so willing to come on here and share this story with us . . . . ."

*Audience roars with applause - camera pans to Mike who looks like he's about to cry with relief . . .*
