I asked a coupl'a people but no one was sure . . . of course, if you want to know several right answers to a question, just post it here . . . lol

ANYWAY . . .

I'm basing this possible stupid question on something I know for sure:
The game in your cell phone is not there for your entertainment. It's there to wear out your battery.
As if lots of talking won't eventually do it, hopefully you will get addicted to that little game during rush-hour or on waiting rooms and you'll have to buy a new phone battery at roughly $75 a pop.
For this reason, I only use my cell for personal business mostly and I NEVER play the game on my phone, and I have to use my severe 'MOTHER' voice when I catch Emily on it.

All that said . . . I have recently discovered that I actually LIKE to play solitaire on my computer while waiting for pages to change.
It takes so long for pages to load, I can almost play 2 whole games waiting for e-mail to come up.

SO . . . here's the question, which you may or may not find stupid:

Does it add an extreme amount of wear & tear to my computer, or make anything expensive wear out sooner, or will it cause my computer to crash prematurily, if we play a lot of Solitaire on here?

On OR off line??

Stop laughing and answer me serious now . . . .

I prefer Free Cell, Sheila.
Ever try it?
I don't have games on my phone, thank God.
(Not that I'd play them)
But I don't even let Justis have a GameBoy, so I'd never let him play with my phone!
And I doubt that playing with an installed game would hurt yer puter.

Sheila....you don't buy replacement batteries from the cell phone providers!!!!!!!!

Google "cell phone batyteries" and you can find a dozen places toio buy a new batterty for about 1/3 the price! AND they are usually a higher capacity!

Replace a battery on a cellphone??? [Rolling On The Floor]

Isn't that like trying to get a scanner or desktop inkjet printer or digital camera repaired? [Eek!]

Just buy a new unit if it's out of warantee!! [Confused]

Edited to answer the original question...NO playing computer games won't wear anything out except your fingertips or the mouse..(maybe)

BUT if you can get in a couple of games of solitaire while waiting for a page to load it is time to start thinking about a new ISP..especially one that provides hi-speed service.

I'm currently on dial-up here in Mexico and anxiously awaiting Telmex's hook-up of my ADSL, but even on dial-up, I don't need to be playing Solitaire waiting for pages to load.

Until the ADSL hook-up is done I can still watch our home satellite reception using dial-up..choppy but understandable.

Check out internet access options Sheila..something is wrong if your connection is as slow as you indicate.

Shelia,
No..playing games like Solitaire will not hurt your computer. But I'm with Dave, you proably need Internet Service Provider. A new computer with lots more memory and larger hard drive would make the whole computer work faster and better too.

How do you think Bill Gates became so rich? He got all the corporate world hooked on playing Solitaire and took over while they were distracted.

Are jokes like this how new conspiracy theories get started?

Dave, changing the battery on a cell phone is as easy as changing the batteries in your flashlight!

Si..buddy..I have removed and re-installed tne batteries in a couple of cell phones, just to see how to do it. It's easy.

My point was..why buy a new battery when a new and better phone is either cheaper or free (depending on whether ya wanna sign up for a year's contract)

Both of our cell phones are over 4 years old (Shirl's is probably 7 years old) when either one has a problem we'll buy a new phone instead of putting a new battery in an old phone..

It's kinda like putting a new engine in an old car and then praying daily that the transmision isn't the next thing to go wrong!! LOL

Your'e right Dave.
By the time my phone would need a new battery, they would'nt even HAVE THAT phone anymore ...I'd have to get the newer model for the $50 renew/change-over/service/rip-off charge.
This was the situation a few years ago when my cell phone was stolen, and a few months ago when my phone antenna broke off, even though I had the $4 mo. 'insurance' both times.
[Roll Eyes]

Either way, the cell phone company is in total control of the quality/life of your battery or phone for their own profit.

Alltel's new slogan: 'Come and get your Love' translates: Apox on the people who have complete discipline in their cell phone use. We gotta get YOU SOMEHOW.

I mean, my whole original point was . . . could it actually be ANY different with a computer??

Gee but I'm cynical today. [Wink]

See y'all after I go back to bed and get up on the opposite side. . . . [Razz]

I've purchased extended-life cell phone batteries on eBay for dirt cheap. Outlasted the stock battery by a long shot. I can see avoiding cell phone games if your battery was low and you couldn't charge it soon, but because you're worried about the the long-term battery life? Life's way too short for that. If you wanna play a game, go for it. I don't think it will impact things that much and if it does, you spend a few dollars on an eBay battery.

Well, I'm not into cell phone games persay, I was just wondering if computer games were on your computer for the same purpose.

My kid has Nintendo and a GameBoy, both of which have a WHOLE lot MORE fun games than the boring, one game on my phone, and all she has to do is charge a battery for free.
She's livin' her short life to the fullest, I do believe. [Razz] [Big Grin]
