I've long been labeled a dreamer and I happily wear the title. Even so I don't think any of my dreams fall into the impossible category.
I've seen a few dreams of my clients die on the vine. Most were because the dreams were not realistic... they wanted ALL or nothing, and often had to settle for the lesser. I'd rather dream at a high but realistic level where I don't have to count on others too much to make my dreams come true.
I don't buy lottery tickets. If I did, it might improve my chances of winning, but not by much. I have purchased a few through the years, but whenever I do I immediately start having expectations which never seem to come to pass. While not impossible, the odds are certainly stacked against me. I'll skip that frustration and put the money towards my achievable dreams instead.
Instead, I choose to continue to dream dreams of a different sort. The dreams I have are about things I know I can do... things I can change or build.
Good dreams aren't easily achieved. If they were it wouldn't take much imagining and there wouldn't be much fun or challenge in that. And if they were easy, I suppose everyone would achieve their dreams.
Each time I set on on achieving a new dream there are many who doubt I will ever achieve it. Sometimes the list include friends or family, but once my heart is set there isn't much can stop me although it can slow me down at times.
My dreams only come about with a great deal of effort on my part. Many times I have help from family and friends. Bankers too sometimes play a part... but I always have to pay them back.... with interest.
I can't recall any of my dreams coming to fruition in an instant, but rather over a long period of intense effort. Most start out small and grow through the planning effort. Some I've had to scale back when I realise the true cost -either in time or money or both.
Most are realized by doing little things each day, ever moving closer to my dream - one tiny step at a time, always moving, never fast enough, sometimes like a slug, breaking down the massive into small managable tasks. Some of my dreams are built in stages over many years.
Some of my dreams have been financed by pocket change thrown into a jar each night, others by sizable bank loans which took many years to pay down.
Its a wonderful thing to dream. And it is even more wonderful to look back through many decades of realized dreams.
I'll never stop dreaming as long as I live. I'll also never stop working towards making those same dreams come true.
Here's to realistic dreaming!
May you find the courage to dream wonderful dreams, and the fortitude and strength to do what it takes to realise each and every one.!

Cheers to all our "mostly realistic" dreams coming to reality in the upcoming year.....and beyond.
I hope to acheive many things this year. Sometimes things unfold at a frustratingly slow pace. But like you said, when you have to work at something really hard is seems way more worthwhile in the end.
I am hoping to make it to as many live meets as I can this year. I am also looking into relocating far away from the frozen north to explore more creative adventures!
Looks like it will be a year of change, growth, and happy challenges!

I'm dreaming some dreams right now and hope to make steps toward those in 2006. They won't come without hard work, but will be worth the effort.

You sound like everyday you get up and attack your day, Dan. So much of what poeple get out of their lives is their attitude and I love yours!!

Great message Dan. I have always been a dreamer too, but a lot are still dreams because of not planning and working at achieving them.
Like Mark, there are some definate dreams in place for this year. Lots of work presently and hopefully in the future to help those dreams come to pass.
Biography is my favorite reading because of being able to look into others lives and see how they accomplished what they did. Most were dreamers, but linked those dreams to a lot of hard work. They sacrificed one thing to get another. The words "passion" and "focus" continually come up.
Keep dreamin' Dan.
