Here’s a little tip I haven’t seen posted anywhere: I had to make changes to some Menu signs (lots of small 1/3” inch copy) but I discovered the matching vinyl color I had was old stock (somewhat brittle/mottled and impossible to weed under 3”) rather than order a new roll I tried my heat gun on it before cutting, the heat gun brought back the original gloss and when I proceeded to weed the vinyl it was like NEW VINYL! I have since tried this on different types/manufactures of vinyl and it works every time. I would not do this on anything that is going outdoors or needs to last a long time, but for temporary signage it could save you some time and money.

To add to Tony's suggestion (which is a good one)...be sure to weed out the centers of letters like "o" and "d" etc. before applying the pre mask and installing.
It's one thing to pull off the surrounding vinyl but an entirely different matter to be picking away at "centers" with an exacto knife on a freshly painted substrate.
