This is about Catalin, my Romanian room-mate, who is over here from his native country of Romania, trying to gain permnament work status, which would allow him to operate here as any other citizen of America, owning a SS#, working, paying taxes, driving, traveling; even owning his own business. This has been focus of last nine months, six of which he's been under a standard, six month visitors visa, and upon expiration, holder must return to country of origin and apply for another one, as this one took over three years to obtain, this wasn't a viable option for him...so... Even though some of the time was rocky, his employer here, arranged a $18,000 college scholorship for him here at UNLV, his major is computor design, a course he will ace easlily...if, his paperwork goes thru and his application for perm. status is approved. This step was supposed to happen the first of Sept., shortly prior to him having visa run out, and his plane trip planned back to Romania; the INS contacted him to be in their offices, three days after visa deadline, so he cancelled his plane ticket, (later redeemed in San Diego to return here from weekend there, sightseeing); their finding left him waiting to hear from them as to whether he had to return to Romania to get final paperwork signed, so he could possibly return here, I say possibly, because there is a real good chance, his gov't won't LET him return...the plot thickens... So, Catalin and I planned to end of month, at that time, we planned to end of next month, each one, full well knowing, may be last time we will ever see each other again, doing whatever it was that we were doing...I didn't do that much w/him as for him...he did most of his "exploring" here, on his own.....it has been very trying, not able to plan past a month, and having cloud overhead that might very well, break open and rain ALL over our parade... To explain; I'm at juncture in life, where I'm either going to go full-bore into new business, or take off on some sort of mobile retirement...not wanting to full bore anything at this stage of my life, that option would HAVE to include a enthuiastic helper/partner...the other, of course has many drawbacks to consider if serious....THEN TODAY.............
IN THE MAIL........CAME AN IMPORTANT LOOKING LETTER FROM THE OFFICE OF HOMELAND SECURITY.....
IT'S THE PAPERWORK HE'S BEEN WAITING FOR!!!! FULL STATUS.....PAPERS SIGNED HERE, NO RETURN TRIP REQUIRED.....HE'S ON HIS WAY TO CITIZENSHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELCOME TO THE GOOD OL' USA CATALIN..........................just in time for Xmas, great present, made it all worth it...good on you my friend..........
He starts school in Jan...
