My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone. Posts: 3129 | From: Tooele, UT | Registered: Mar 2005

On a wood floor, using your clone tool, center your cursor directly over a seam in the floor to take your sample. Then likewise, center the cursor at the seam where you're cloning to. That way, the seams should match up nice in the patched area.

Another little tip, grab a selection box immediately above the date about the size of the lettering and option click and drag the selected section down over the date. While it is still selected, click on the little arrow tool at the top right of the tools and then you can use the arrow keys to line up the selection exactly. I forgot to add that always copy by duplicating the layer so you have protection and then when you option drag, it becomes another layer so you should merge down to join the layer to the previous one. I hope this makes sense.

All above are right, & the patch tool is excellent, but you could also try cropping the photo a tad smaller too, to just inside the writing.

I always, using the polygon lasso tool, select a small piece of nearby floor & set the feather to .02 & create 'new layer via copy' & move on top of date. I'm somewhat new & have never tried the clone tool... coolage.

Don Coplen... don't feel too bad as I also have PS 5.5 and it gets me by fine. A friend gave me a copy of 7.0, however the serial numbers don't work. I am figuring to upgrade to mac OSX soon and I will just buy Adobe CS.
Buy the way, if anyone wants to see some VERY nice PhotoShop work, check out photoshopcafe.com. Some truly amazing examples in the various tabs.

Alien Skin has a program called image doctor that will do this and more (but probably overkill for what you need) - one of their examples is removing the date. http://www.alienskin.com/idoc/index.html
