Helping lift a desk for a friend, when I felt three distinct "rubber-band like" pops in my bicep area. Go to doctor. It is torn loose from bone....SURGERY (gotta love that self employed insurance plan)....painful now in a splint from right shoulder to fingertips. awkward and uncomfortable...makes it had to coat out any panels. lol.
Anywhooo just griping....6 mos doc says for complete recovery. Aw well. I am thankful...others have had it much worse.

Bummer Barry. Which arm? Same one as you use to write?
If so, you can use this time to teach yourself to paint 'other-handed'. Or think of all the time you can spend goofing off online cause you can't do any real work.

wow... people should be really careful about hiring capable employees... earlier this year I broke my foot... 1 week after hiring an experienced sign guy to step into my shoes on the production workload around here.
...anyway, very sorry to hear about your accident. The calm acceptance of fate is easier to put forth at the onset, I know you will manage to find a positive viewpoint each day, but I also imagine it will get a little tougher to do as time wears on. Best wishes for a speedy recovery

how old are you? i did the same thing to my left arm(iam left handed)it hurts, all over your arm, cant find a comfortable position without pain. mine i couldnt get my elbowlifted out to shoulder height..and it would put me to my knees with pain. was gona go to doctor.....and i just happened to run into a guy...who had a cast on his right arm from his shoulder to wrist, and it was held out away from his body by an steel rod that rested on his right hip...really looked totally unconfortable......so i asked him what happened. he said it was a torn MENUSCUS. explained it was torn ligiment fron the bone in and under the bicep. which i knew thats what i did from doin it to my right arm arm wrestiling back when i was young. i said how long that got be there.. he said 6 months....so right then and there i knew i wasnt goin that route. i belive the body can heal a lot of things on it own if given time and attention. i started takin a chi gong class(very lite physical)and did that for 6-8 months....couple nites a week. it took a while longer then 6 months...was painfull and hard to get comfortable sleeping but i managed and still worked. just didnt push on that area.....i was 51-52 when it happened....body dont work like it used to....hehehehehe

...some therapy for that injury later on down the road a bit (pain-wise) is to walk your hand up the wall beside you (like a spider) then walk it back down. It will build the muscle back up when it's time to start.

Barry...you can come over and help me load some ammo to help excercise it!
I tore a muscle in the rotator cuff area. Choice was surgery or build up the muscle one eother side to take up the load. No brainer...avoid the surgery! So there I am with this rubber thingie working the muscles, and thinking what a waste of time and energy! Then Eureka! It is the same motion I use when loading shotgun shells on my P/W press. Built up the muscles and a large supply of ammo!

Oh goodness Barry!! Man that sucks bigtime. I know it's no consolation but Adriano Moraes, a professional bull rider (PBR), did the same thing and was riding the next week! He finished 6th in the world standings this past October ($195,000 in earnings) and he's now #1 in the world. Suck it up big boy and get back on. : )

Follow all the instructions, and don't be 'manly' and push yourself that you make it worse!
Be glad... VERY glad!!!... that you have some sort of health insurance! Wanna trade bills??!? I love how they bill the hospital room itself as "room and board" (cardiothoracic room alone was $1700 a day!!).
Take care!
