Hosting a meet is one of my long held dreams.... and I have been fortunate enough to realise most of my dreams. Every day I make some small step to make it possible. I'd like it to be in early September, and have an adventure golf tournament up at Giggle Ridge as part of the fun.
I already have some sponsors lined up to provide us with the materials for projects I envision... all three dimensional of course. The meet would feature the outrageous things you can do with concrete, welded steel and of course router magic. Lots of paint flying (mostly acrylic of course), and great food from our deli. We have lots of space for tenting, and room for campers, I've already talked with a local hotel and secured great rates.
I'd want it in our shop of course, and would probably have to limit the attendance to 50-60 people as our shop isn't that big. No entertainment would be in the plans, other than perhaps some jamming by folks who had the skills...
I'm hoping September, 2007 but plans are still very tentative. It would be FUN!

I don't feel qualified to host a meet... having never been to one, & also having very limited space but Maui is a great place to be, & I don't doubt all those who come here for any reason would have no regrets.
Small though it may be, I welcome my shop to be on the itinerary for any heads that ever get out this way... & if someone with more experience ever wants to co-host a Maui meet.. I'd get heavily involved in whatever research, logistical preparation, & general grunt labor was required of me to help pull it off.
For the record, having spent 6 years there I can attest to the fact that the Big Island is a great place too, but for these last 10 years I am on the island of Maui... & can honestly say I think it is an even better place for me. The economy is much better, & it is more progressive IMO.

I've got it penciled in. I definitely want to keep my schedule open for this one.
I've been through that area several times, but the last time was just before I got acquainted with Dan's work. I have been looking for an excuse to go up there and see his shop.
Sometimes, when I visit my brother in Montana, I'll purposely schedule my flight into Vancouver, just so I'll be forced to endure driving across British Columbia... tough job, but somebody has to do it!

I think you should try to have one when it will be warm and dry, cause there is no way you are going to have less than 60 people wanting to be there. Let the overflow fill up the tents outside.
BTW... If you ARE going to limit numbers, please put my name on the list now, cause I don't want to be left out.

If there ever were a list, add me please. Sorry Dan if this post has turned into a 'Who can type fastest and get on a list that Dan isn't even making' But, I confess that is exactly what I am doing because I would never want to miss the education, excitement and inspiration that would be at such a meet.

If anyone is interested in helping Doug, I can say that we had a Letterhead meet in Maui several years ago and it is a great place. Not too crouded like the big island. People came from Japan, New Zeland and Australia, not many from the U.S.

Dan, I think with 50-60 people, there would be a waiting list of people trying to get to your meet. You do some cool stuff and I'm sure anybody with the means would like to be there, including Jane and me.
On the one hand it seems unfortunate to have so many good meets available for Letterheads, but that is actually better for those hosting meets, because 50-60 is more manageable and a lot less stressful than 400.
Also several smaller meets throughout the year make it easier for folks to work them into their schedules. I have been in on hosting 3 meets from 450 attendees to 30 attendees and whatever brain I still have left you're sure welcome to pick if you need input. I say go for it and announce it as soon as possible, so people can plan early.
By the way, I don't know whether I would invite that Hulsey guy or not! He may look like Kenny Rodgers, but he can't sing. He would probably be better at a meet at Doug's, because he could hit unlimited golf balls in the ocean.

Save a place on the "spindle-head list for me Dan. And if there is a spot for my old van, me and a beer cooler under a shady tree I'd be one happy critter.

I wasn't aware that there were Letterheads in Japan. That's cool to read!

Doug ! we just returned from a 2 week TDY @ Hickam AFB, (Pearl Harbor ) on Oahu-which means "the gathering place". Norh shore meet in Nov. would work out great ! Pinstripping surfboards !!!!! Some folks took a puddle jumper to your island & was equally impressed.
NFL Pro Bowl pre-week would work also ! I'd volunteer to do "recon" on YOUR meet- tough job i know.....but some sign person has too......

Glad you had a good trip Mark, sorry you couldn't make it over to this island, but they are all nice. I never thought of that, but surfboards would be great for striping, the shape seems ideal for so many of the design styles I've seen done. Have you striped any? hmm.. after Dan's meet, I may just be ready to take this Maui meet idea seriously.

I'm pleased by all the folks who would want to attend a meet at our little shop. My email box has had much more than usual traffic too in the last few days.
It all encourages me to get busy planning a letterhead meet here for real.
The good news is that in the meantime, I would welcome anybody if they dropped by - just about any time. Like others who have happend by, I would probably immediately put you to work, for there never seems to be a dull moment here - even when its relatively quiet. Anytime two or more letterheads meet, in my experience, there is an instant friendship and exchange of information - just like at the big official meets.
I encourage anybody who is planning to drop by to give me a buzz or drop me an email first. With the nature of our business I am not always guaranteed to be in the shop.
Thanks for the encouragement!

Dan, This is a dangerous thread! Don't encourage us to visit Diane mentions that she would love to fly out there about once a week. Even my boy wants to go out and see Giggle Ridge.
If you have a meet Diane will be off packing her things so fast it will make the computer spin.
