I am not able to access the forums page there. Anyone have an idea of what is going on.

Second part is a question about Omega 2.1 on a new computer.
My problem is I had to buy a new computer and now I am not able to print to my edge II. I have been around with Gerber on this and their suggestion is to try a different computer (which I am in the process of doing).

What is happening is when I output to the edge I get a error that says "Edge 2 requires an ECP parallel port". Everything is set right according to Gerber it just doesn't see the port correctly. Anyone else have a similar problem that may be able to offer some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, TJ

I had problems like that and had to add an additional printer card. If you have your cable pluged into a dongle or spliter this could be your problem. The printer card is a SIIG (get this one not a cheepie - been there done that!) Thats the only thing I can tell you.

I could print on my new computer for a little while and somethine went haywire, after talking back & forth with Gerber they suggested an additional card, I got a cheepie and it didn't work, when I got the SIIG it worked.

I hope there are other suggestions to help but that worked for me.

That's funny because I did that and they told me that it would not work at all. This shouldn't be as complicated as it is, thanks I will try some other things as well

Do you happen to know the partnumber/model number of the card that worked for you?

TJ,

I don't remember but it was something like this

http://www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=97&pid=150

It's on my "currently" back up computer but at the time it was my main computer. I think I got it on the net from our friends norte' of the border.

Funny they say it won't work, maybe we had different problems. I know I couldn't print and this was one of the solutions. I also purchased a Lava serial card for the cutter as told to me by Gerber. After that everything worked like a charm. My Summa didn't work on the serial anymore but since it has USB I just downloaded the new drivers and have run USB ever since.

Sorry I'm not more help,

We had that same error on the Edge 1 and 1.56.
Gerber said it was because the os on the new computer was XP and told us to get rid of XP and use Windows 98.
We did and it has been working since.
I'm still not convinced that it was necessary to downgrade a new computer, but....!!!!! They never mentioned a printer card.

This may be redundant, but have you checked in your bios to see if your parallel port is set to ECP?

what Bill said... also, do you have the usb dongle?, if not, that might be an option to compare price on vs. buying a new port. I think you can switch dongles for about $50, & if that makes your existing port work, it may also be a plus to have a convenient sized dongle for taking work home & fireing up Omega at home.

TJ,
Doug is right about the USB dongle/XP. Shop i vectorize for just upgraded to XP on three design stations. Two with Usb dongles, one with parallel.
Fine on usb, trouble on parallel. Set the trouble one back up to 98se. Worked fine.

Thanks for all the suggestions
1. I did switch to the USB dongle. Was told I had to with the
Omega 2.1 upgrade. That wasn't the problem.
2. Settings were all correct (ECP in BIOS) but error message still said Edge 2 requires ECP Parallel port. Gerber told me the only other very rare times they have seen this was also on HP Pavillion desktop machines, which this machine was.

Now my problem is somewhere along the line trying to make this work on 4 different computers I discovered a scratch on the 2.1 CD now it won't let me complete the installation. I have 1.56 so I am ok for now. But thanks again for the advice.

By the way do any of you know the status of Edgetalk?

We had some problems with the Edge using both Signlab and Omega.

I seem to remember something about a warp driver needing to be installed. I also had to buy a $20 printer card.

We got help from both companies on 4EdgeTalk.com

Just want to confirm about the issues with using the HP computers. I ran into a similar problem and ended up switching to a Dell.

Systemax has done well here also.

I would try installing a new ECP card that is configurable.

TJ, I log onto 4edgetalk.com every day for a quick look. Not always a lot of activity... but it has never been down when I looked (including when I first saw your post & again right now)
