We have just been asked to bid on a LARGE corrugated wall project. Our client is a painting contractor that we have a great long standing relationship with. The project is an addition to an existing building on a local College campus.
We need to paint (8) 25' tall letters on freshly painted surface. "A" The corrugation is 2'-6" on center "B" The letter strokes are 32" wide. "C" The letters are "T" & "C" alternating down the entire building, (8) total letters (4) "T", (4) "C". The Architect requests a THREE step painting process. Primer coat, then (2) top coats of finish color.
Now for the kicker. There are windows all across the face of the building, on two floors. this means the "letters" will be intersected at various points by the window openings.
There you have it.
What would you charge for this Great opportunity??
I'll tell you what I quoted after we get some input from you good folks.
Bob

How high? Length of the wall? Are you paying for the lift or is the painting contractor? Who supplies what?
Thanks!

I just typed in T&C Helvetica at 25' in height. it came up with about 58" on the width of the stroke on T. Si is right 32" in pretty slender. Also on Helvetica bold the stroke was 92" wide

If my conversions to metric are correct ... US$5,500 plus marked up cost of 2 gallons primer, 4 gallons paint, and crane truck hire.
2 persons 4 days on site maximum. Cut the letters with a fitch and fill in with a roller or preferably airless spray gun. Windows no problems. Biggest hassle will be marking out the curves of the "C". "T" can be done with a chalk line.
Letter stroke will be 42" on average. {sorry I miss read my scale ruler}.
Letter style looks like Helvetica, BUT the architect probably used some bizare letter style that none of have ever heard of. The blue print looks close to helvetica.
Thanks Bob

Here's a thought, if you get the job. Buy youself some coroplast, duct tape it together, and cut out the two letters you need at the shop. Hang it from the roof, it should not weigh more than 20 lbs or so, trace it out, and move it to the next location, should go fairly quick. A couple of 2.5" angle sash brushes and some rollers, a good radio, and you'll have a blast. 2 guys 4 days sounds about right to me. $6000 Canadian for labor Plus paint, coro, and lift.

Refinement on the idea. You only need a pattern for the "C" and even then only 1/4 of the "C". Just mark top left 1/4, flip over for top right 1/4, mark terminal of the "C". Invert pattern and repeat for bottom half.
At the most you will need a 2 or 3 piece pattern cut out couple of 8x4 sheets 5mm coro and these could be taken up in the lift and taped into place to mark out. Great for going over the windows too!

I'd be inclined to suggest 2 good coats instead, and drop the price to $3200. Boredom would be high, and wrist soreness hanging off a roller for that long.

Going by the current specs from the architech, and the great help given here my quote for the job will fall between SI's estimate and Jon's.
I will be submitting a bid of $7500 U.S.
Ian; here in the United States we must follow the specifications from the architechs. If we do not there can be fines and penalties, plus the cost of redoing the job if the specs are not followed. As a sign writer, many times we "KNOW" that we can supply a better, more durable painted surface using sign related paints and substrates. But the specifications on the bid forms must be adheared too or you are going to find yourself up to your' paint brushes in trouble.
Many of these type of bids are for Government funded projects. Therefore what the Government wants(let the reader understand that means we the TAX PAYERS) the Government gets.
DAMN THE COST FULL SPEED AHEAD !!

WOW that would be GREAT to have a famous wall doggie like you working with me. I could carry your brushes, pick up drop clothes for you, and learn a "HECK of a LOT" just watching you pour paint into a bucket. You would be welcomed with open arms brother. This job {if we win the bid} won't take place till 2006 in the early spring most likely because of our lousy weather getting ready to shut down outside painting.
As far as the "Blue Jackets" tickets?? Are they the hockey team from Columbus Ohio?
We just got our OWN HOCKEY TEAM this year. The STEEL HOUNDS, playing tonight in our brand new Convocation center. Federally Funded I might add!! Yah just GOT to love your Government when they will fork over 26 MILLION big ones to help fund a hockey rink.
Go Hounds. Current record 3-0
