Heard about the torrential rains and flooding. Heard on the news some homes were lost. More damage likely if the rain don't stop. Evac only a POSSIBILITY at present, and no sunshine in sight for a while!!
If you can let us know how it's going please do so, or if you know about someone there, let us know.
We care, even if we cain't do much'a nuthin' . . .
I'll try to pack-up-and-ship some sunshine to y'all if I can . . .

The Capt and I are fine Sheila. Thanks for asking. We are blessing ourselves that we live near the ocean strange as it may be, better not to live in the mountains at this time. The storms is staying west of the coast due to coastal winds so we are faring fine..imagine that?

We have had 8 straight days of rain.

The skies have been grey for several days in the Upper Conneticut River Valley area, but there's only been a few brief showers while 90 miles south of here is seeing damage from flooding, especially Allstead and Keene, NH. Four people are still missing there and homes have been lost.
I just want "natural disaster" stuff to end for a while. We need a chance to catch our collective breath. Rapid

In the Hudson Valley of NY we have had 13 inches of rain. And it is still raining.Fortunately I live in the mountains. It is a real mess near the streams and rivers.

I talked to Cam 2 days ago and he made no mention of serious rainfall. He like us are getting rain but still at a clip that the water ways can handle. Although today they are calling for a heavy rainfall and we are expecting 5 inches just today. I wonder if Bob Peach is out building an Arc. He's good like that ya know

We still have our heads above water, but it is bad all arround. All rivers and streams are flooding throughout the area from north to central Jersey.

We got heavy rains on Sun. and Mon. but there is a huge flood plain just north of us that hasn't been paved over yet so Mother Nature is taking good care of us. Got a little water in the basement but everything else is fine.
I'm looking foward to seeing the sun again and watch as the mountains fill with color.

Sheila, We're getting about 2.5" of rain per day for the last week. Some flooding in the low lying areas, mostly along the Housatonic River. We were delaying installations for the last week, now we just go out and put the signs up in the rain.
I left my boat in the water for one last foliage cruise. Now I might have to use it to get to work.
They say the rain should be stopping by sunday. Let's hope they are right.

It's been rainy all week, but not as bad as it has been inland. Bob R., maybe we could build an arc in your yard, perhaps with a cupola on it?!?!!
Hope there's still some leaves on the trees. This week and next is usually the time when the foliage peaks in these parts!
Looking forward to Sunday...supposedly the sun will be making an appearance.

And now, an ad'lib story about funny names of cities up yonder. . . . . .
A guy named Danbury Millbury , (from Australia) wearing a Trenton -coat, (since it never stopped pouring down rain), was standing on a Marblehead , (no easy task) in Chatham, hoping to make a Deposit , while eating a Sandwich . He hummed a tune about camping in East 'Canaan's Happy land', and wondered how IT had endured the floods back then . . . It seems the Little Ferry could'nt handle the swelling river, and the waters were Washing-a-ton of the levees away. He then, realizing his need to find higher ground, hollered out, as he looked North, " HAV-yer-a-HIll up there?!?!?"
HEY YOU UNICORNS STOP HORSING AROUND AND GET ON BOARD!
Not funny tho, my back yard is flooded, and my next door neighbor has 3 feet plus in his yard and cellar. His Ford Explorer is now a submarine and the neighbor on the other side now has lake front property.
Across my street the houses have either flooded basements and or lakes for yards. Behind thier houses is a 100 year flood plain which by the looks of it must have hit the 100 year mark. The major river that flows through our town called the Blackstone river has breached it's banks and now has consumed many areas in this town. in my short 39 years of living here I have never seen any such destruction like this water related here.
I should have known this was coming based on what happened to our neighbors up north. Water runs down hill and thier water has to be channeled through our water ways.
The TV crews have been here all day interviewing neighbors and assessing damage. The other side of town is completely shut down and all access roads are blocked from traffic. It's nothing compared to Katrina and Rita trust me this is childs play compared to thier horror and man we were lucky with only mere inches in our basement.
I am concerend about the backyard as it is still raining and the water level is rising under my shop. I hope the rain stops this afternoon.

The 'soggy-saga' of the northern cites continued: (Every one knows when it's raining you need a good book to read . . .if you know of one, let me know . . . . . . )
. . . Now Danbury's Trenton coat (a Trenton coat is a knock-off brand trenchcoat), was soaked thru so he stepped into the Chatham cafe, which was very crowded due to the endless rains. 'I sure wished I was visiting my friend in AL.,stead of here", he thought to himself, as he sat down in the only empty booth and retreived a damp pack of Salem lights from a shirt pocket. He found one cigarette still fairly dry. "Keene !", he thought, as he lit it and relaxed. But just then, the waitress came over and said he'd have to go outside immediately if he wanted to smoke, and if he did'nt go, he would be fined for smoking!
Danbury suddenly felt a severe cold coming on due to his horribley chilled & soggy condition. And since he was flat broke and not willing to go back out in the torrential rain, and because it was too late to make a Deposit, (the Hudson Valley bank closed early due to flooding), and the Little Ferry had been docked anyway, and since he was hungry after being unable to eat very much of his wet Sandwich, Danbury Millbury, thru his nasal congestion, sputtered, "Cad I work my fined off id thu kidchen? I Pen-a-cook before . . ."

Thanks for asking. It's been crazy everywhere this past year, kind of Biblical Proportions all around. We drove from Boston to New York on Friday and Connecticut was getting hammered. When we drove back through yesterday there were power outages and our favorite diner in Vernon, CT was closed due to no power. I am sure the business people were not too happy as they get lots of people doing the New York to Boston, or vice versa, jaunt.
New Hampshire sounds as it is pretty welll slammed as well. I hope Worcester doesn't get hit this week, I'd like to do David Butler's workshop before I float away.
Ciao for now, Tricia
