its gettin to be a sad state of affairs when a fuel that requires way less refinering can out price 93 octane gas!!!! this is the hight of GREED.

It's even 'greedier' when you think about the assinine excuses created for not building new refineries and accessing the oil right in our own country . . .
Most of us would prefer to find a convenient fall-guy to smack upside the head, rather than to look objectively at the four decades of unfortunate decision making that have led us to this point.
Making a sensible observation will only serve to distract us from our smacking and ranting.

Lots of refineries have been built in Africa, since the 80's but of course the enviromental restrictions are much looser there. It's only a matter of what the market will bare. I would suggest that y'all might scout a book called "BLUE GOLD". Evidence of how sleepy we really are.
Controls are way to deep and laws to protect them.

lol ! i blame greenpeace and the like ! "you can't build that there... there's a termite mound that's of special scientific interest", aint there always !
i read a thing the other day (slightly off topic) about greenpeace in the 80's and 90's lobbying against decommissioning of oil rigs at sea, eventually turning a $1billion decomm at sea, into a, £11 billion excercise cos the oil co's now have to bring the rigs ashore to dismantle (despite all the contaminants being removed before it's moved anyways),
the irony of this is, greenpeace argued that the oil co's answer that "sinking the rigs to make an artificial reef" was a lie, deception, etc etc, so, after i think the french, sank their ship 'rainbow warrior' around australia, they refloated it, and guess what ? they sailed it to a marine haven and sank it so it could be an artificial reef !!!
whilstthey may not be directly responsible, they multiplied the costs of a decomission ten fold, and complained worldwide at every hint of a new refinery or rig (wonder what their boats engines run on ? or how the material for their inflatables is made ?? !!!!), and as a result, less refineries get built where they're needed, and cost go up,
though prices now are what might be described as greedy, i know i tease you lot about complaining of the costs of gas, but i fully understand your worries, we've been up against it for years cos of the taxes we have to pay on the stuff,
i'm all for protecting the planet, but there's other ways of doing it without cutting our own throats !

and without people like greepeace, THE EXXON VALDIS woulda only been the 1st of many many more like it. diesel is a fuel that for a refinery is a simply process comapared to refining 93 and 115 octane gasoline. for years diesel was at the low end of the fuel costs hence so many diesel vehicles. it wasnt untill the mid 90's that they started with additives to diesel which is adding to the cost of it and i remember a mechanic freind of mine tellin me about all the mercedes diesels that had to have all the seals replaced in the diesel injector systems because of the change in the fuels....and this is also when diesel fuel started to go higher then unleaded fuel, which is another joke on the public. LEADED FUELS was an ADDITIVE to gas to help coat the valves/valve seats of high compression engines run quieter so you didnt hear valve PING, on acceleration. if you remember in the 50's AMACO was the only gas co that sold a LEAD FREE FUEL.

I can understand the heads up you posted. Last fall, the shop I was renting had deisel fuel for heating and a 200 gallon tank to store it in. Beating the price hike would be a noticable savings.
I've almost been waiting for this one to hit. Typically, deisel and kerosene fuel prices have always been sharply higher than gas here, but of late they have been running at about the same cost per gallon. Didn't figure it was going to last.
LP gas is up about 30% from this time last year and we heat both the house and shop with it.
Given the fact that this effects the amount of overhead for any business around here, last winter was nearly impossible to get through with everyone tightening their budgets and putting signage off til spring. It's one of the deciding factors in my shutting down the shop. Given the local economy and the harshness of the winters here, I doubt I can justify keeping the shop warm with fewer customers coming in.
Gonna be a long, costly winter up here for many people. Rapid

i remember those new england wintas, i live at the top of maine for 8 years and it seemed like 10 WINTAS...hehehhehe. we had a 4 room over a 2 car garage house and the oil furnace was in the garage. 1969-73 and my wife at the time her dad worked ata fuel oil company so iwe got company discount and it was .45-.50 a gallon ar that time i think. we hada set bill per month to the fuel co and it was easier to pay for it in the summer then in the -70 degree winta. we dont have bad winters here in pcola but have seem 18 some nites in jan-feb. we heat with natural gas and cook and heat water. but iam buyin a wood stove for this winter.....with all that ivan knocked down wood should be very cheap here for the next couple of winters.

You guys that use natural gas for heating better stock up now, from what I hear most of the offshore production will be down for a while due to platform damage and pipeline issues. Our gas jumped up 20 cents a gallon today, now it's $2.89 for regular
