Hey, I haven't asked one in a while.
The situation: I got one older PC that runs Win 98 Had Corel 9 installed, now installed Corel 10 Kicked out Corel 9, now images, like JPEG, won't open
I can import them into Corel Photo Paint 10, but how do I set it as default? I want all images to automatically open with Photo Paint 10. In Win XP there is an option "OPEN WITH..." when you right click an image. Windows 98 doesn't have that.
Shouldn't it automatically use the available program?

Select your JPG file in Windows Explorer, then hold the Shift key down and right click your mouse. "Open with" should now appear in the context sensitive menu. Select it and then select PhotoPaint from the list and check the "always use this program" box. You can use the Browse button to select the photopnt.exe file from your installed directory if it isn't in the list. Also, you may have to repeat the process for both .JPG and .JPEG extensions.

Lotti...Open Windows Explorer, click on tools then folder options. Then click File Types. go down the list of file types until you see JPEG and JPG. Highlight them one at a time and then click on the "change" button. A new list will appear shopwing all the available programs on your computer. Select PhotoPaint and it will become the default viewer for JPEGS and JPGS.
I guess Bob types faster than me!!!

Sounds as easy as I was hoping it would be, but it isn't. I got as far as selecting the JPEG file in Windows Explorer, but when I hold the shift key down and right click it, as Bob suggests, I get a "What's this" message. I also have no "Change" button at that point, only "New Type", "Remove" and "Edit" but in "Edit" I do not get a choice of programs to open the file. You're probably both working in Win XP.

The term in Win98 was 'file association'. Can't remeber how to associate a file extension to a program but looking up 'association' in Windows Help should expalain the process.

I found Corel 9 was still under "Registred File Type" and once I removed it and then tried to open up a JPEG file, it automatically asked me what program I wanted to use. I also checked "Always use this program" and BINGO.
Thank you both though, if it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't have found that "Registred File Type" for a while. Learned something today...cool
Dave Grundy must have a little red lamp that blinks the minute the word Corel appears on the BB. I don't know how you do it, Dave
