Preparing an estimate for a Hotel and some of these have to be replaced. Seems to be CNC routed. Surface is a brushed gold, next layer is black and the background is green. Size is about 12 by 18 inch. Ideas, anyone?

Ron - My guess is that the sign is engraved. You need a Rowmark catalog, and I recommend Johnson Supply.

The letters are made from a black engraving material that has a thin film of gold on the face.

The raw material is affixed to the substrate. The whole thing is put into an engraving machine which cuts the outline of the letters. Then the excess material is then "weeded" away to leave just the letters stuck onto the background.

This construction method yields a sign that is quite inexpensive to make (if you have an engraving machine) but that will command a high price because it looks very expensive.

Look at the edges of the letters. If engraved the black will have a slight bevel from the angle of the engraving tool. You will also be able to confirm that the gold layer is very thin.

The background can be whatever you choose. 1/2" Clear acrylic painted second surface looks great.

Please let us know if this is what you have.

Yes Victor, the black edges are indeed beveled and the green substrate has a small re. miniscule score all around each letter, probably from the engraving tool. I am not equipped to make these and will have to order them. Thanks
