Announcing the first ever walldog meet west of the Rockies....

Head West Walldogs
May 26,27,28 & 29, 2006, Memorial Weekend in Lodi, CA
(If you pop in to the Future Meets page, you'll see the official artwork and announcement)

" Follow the migration out west with Allen, Bennett, Butler, Masters,
Oatis, Sawatsky, Wallenfang and Weber, as they discover gold in the
premium wine country of Lodi, CA. Eight historically themed murals will honor the centennial anniversary of the incorporation of the city, where the railroad and river merge supporting the fertile vineyards in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley"

Now is the time to plan that California vacation you always wanted to take. Lodi is centered in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, 30 minutes south of Sacramento (the best airport to fly in). Known as the premiunm winegrape capital of the world, Lodi now has over 40 boutique wineries. The first microbrewery opened a year ago, located in the center of all the wall areas, with the owner promising a specially made ale just for the WallDogs.

Two hours to the west is San Francisco or Santa Cruz, another hour down the coast is Monterey. To the east two hours is Lake Tahoe, about two and a half hours to Yosemite.

Plan now, book ahead. We have more fifty's style motels than modern hotels, though we have those too; and the Grape Festival Fairground
manager spoke of charging under $20 a night for trailers with hookups and under $10 a night for tent campers.

Sounds too good to miss to me.

One of the bonus features is that you get to watch Sawatzky make those wiggly lines...or he may try to do it with his new router. You do know that he's getting a new router?

Hey Tony,

I'm trying to save up my nickels and dimes and get a flight out for this spring. I try to make it to all the Walldog events wherever they are.....love that runny vinyl! And this one sounds like it is going to be great. I'll bring some chocolates for Mr. Butler!

Now, all I have to do is find the brush that does those "bent" lines.

I'm really looking forward to it Tony! Remember to save my bottle of wine, and are you gonna don your Sallies and cook us prime rib again?
It was cool seeing the poster come to life - last I saw it was in black and white. Get that Dickinson piece done by then, must be chipped by now....

I'm really looking forward to this meet. Its a true honor to lead a mural with the likes of Allen, Bennett, Butler, Masters, Oatis, Wallenfang and Weber also leading teams of painters at the same meet.

It will be a great learning experience and wonderful FUN too!

I'll practice up on my wiggly line technique and anybody who wants to help better do the same. [Smile]

One of my goals this go around is to handily beat the Gary Anderson team. I hear he takes pride in painting a mural both well AND quickly too. His team came in second at Cornwall as I recall... but he was mumbling something about how it was the paint that slowed him down. [Smile]

I also taught Raymond to paint a wiggly line in Cornwall... (he was working on Gary Anderson' mural as I recall) you haven't forgotten yet have you Raymond?? If you come and sit on the scaffold beside me and help paint I will be able to share LOTS of wonderful MultiCam Router stories with you by then... It would be ALMOST as good as having a MultiCam Router of your own... [Smile]

Hey Sawatzky, don't forget...our mural was twice as big as yours too...and had more words. And yes, I remember those miles of squiggly lines we put around the border of that thing.

Hope to be in Lodi. I found out that my wife has a brother that lives in Meced, which is not far away.

I don't know about sitting on a scaffold with you, though. Gary is a great friend also, and he offers wine to his workers. And he doesn't have a router either.

Raymond

you forgot a few details regarding the mural in Cornwall... The big mural was actually ours to paint. I had it all laid out and everything. I had out the big brushes and was all ready to go. But there was some kind of mixup and Gary didn't like the long narrow boards which were his... so we traded.

And we started over, reworking and laying out our mural on the long narrow boards instead. I put away my big brushes and took out all my SMALL brushes to make the speed constest more sporting.

I even painted as SLOW as I could to make it last longer. Even so we finsihed our mural first, and like the good guys we are, then came to help you folks out with yours. Without undue heckling I might add.

Maybe it was the wine that slowed you folks down???

It will be GREAT to see you in Lodi!!!

I'd like to follow up to the great enthusiasm that seems to be developing...

Ray, Merced is about an hour and twenty minutes south of Lodi, an easy drive on famous Highway 99.

Dan, I believe the only way wine can slow you down is the quality you consume, not so much the quantity.
I sincerely hope you are not spoiled rotten by the vintners' hospitality here.

I hope to have the registration costs and all those particulars finalized by the first of October (of course we are in the midst of the grape harvest right now, however I lost the time to make any home made wine this year, not to worry, plenty in reserve in my basement).

At any rate, I'm so ecstatic to see the response.
I've only ran into a tiny opposition to this project locally, but there are plenty of walls available.

I hope I can hold up emotionally when this all comes together.

Thanks for your support!

"Back to work, Mr Olafson"

Salute'

It looks like we will have a wonderful team to paint the mural in Lodi... your help is most welcome! You are pretty tall... you could paint the stuff Raymond and that Okie aren't tall enough to reach...

You and all the others on my mural will have to listen to great and wonderful tales of MutliCam Routers however...

Jeanne and I are making plans to attend. Maybe even our son, Mike, who works with me....that is, if we can get him on a plane. He's not really a fan of flying, but he may make an exception to get to visit with a lot of Wall Dogs.

It's already shaping up to be a busy summer in '06. I'll start now saving up the nickels to be able to afford all the "family reunions".

I'll even strain a smile when Dan tells all of his router stories.

I just hope I can put up with Ray and Dan. An Okie, a Texan and a Canadian all on the same scaffold???.....could be dangerous.

I guess if they will take an Okie out there, they will take anyone...even those Canadians.

Tell me again why we take days off from our busineses and pay out large sums of money for transportation, lodging and food...only to work all weekend for someone (for nothing). What is wrong with this picture?

Well Russ,
one of my favorite things to do, is cook good food for a large gathering. Once a year, I cook my famous Cal-Italia chicken for 100 members of the local Oddfellow Lodge.
Unfortunately, I'm finding time is disappearing, even at this stage of the game, so that ribeye BBQ will have to wait for another meet.

As for all of you who have shown an enthusiatistic interset in "Heading West", please shoot me an email with your contact info: mail, email, fax, etc., that will help when the flyers are ready so I don't miss a single one of you fine artists!

Yo Adrianne, ya that'd be great. Acording to mapquest, it's a 13 hour drive from Spanaway. Call me or I'll call you about a month before.
PS I like to stop and look at signs, trucks, rivers, just about anything that can be really cool to look at. Maybe we can get started early, and post signs along the highway on the way down. "This Way to See the Country's Greatest Walldogs!"
