Figured I'd make a new topic, since I don't wanna get any elephant dung on the car...
It was originally Cranberry, Bruce had a buddy paint the top black. I put the chrome grill strips on myself.
Geeesh, Bruce makes it sound like he did the aluminum leaf all by himself... but I helped a little! He did do the turns by himself, though. Turned out really nice - I get alot of compliments on it. Have even had a couple people say they aren't really thrilled with the stock Cruisers, but really like mine.
It was so cool to go to Cruise the Falls back in June in Niagara Falls, Ontario. There were almost 500 PTs there... no two were alike! There are a gazillion aftermarket doo-dads to customize your PT.
We got the chrome bumper inserts, door spears and around the rear license plate area while there.

We just recently added the moonroof deflector and rear spoiler.
I can't remember who took this photo, but at least it shows the turns in the leaf. That's tough to photograph. It's outlined with purple pinstriping.
I got a window deflectors and chrome gauge eyebrows being picked up for me at a Cruise in Clarion, PA this weekend. I also want Bruce to do some of his really cool striping on it. Then I want to get it out in a park or somewhere with a nice background for some photos.
I do have a few more things on my wish-list (rear splash guards, TYC reverse lights, custom antenna, interior welts), but it's getting close to being done.
At least... for now... !!

The non-turbo models aren't known for much kick, but it gets me up on the highway just fine. I figure if we can't go fast quickly, we can at least look good going fast slowly...!!!
Mileage runs in the 20s. It's fully loaded with Cruise, A/C, moonroof, heated mirrors... and heated seats! WOO-HOOO!!! Toasty buns in the winter is a GOOD thing!! Bruce likes the heat on when he has a back ache.
Bruce put a remote start in it for me, too.
It's the perfect car for me. It's VERY roomy inside. Getting in and out of the back seat is a breeze, even for um, lets just say rather large people.
The rear shelf has three positions. In the lowest position it's at the same height as the rear seats folded down. And the passenger seat folds forward and down completely flat, at the same level. One of the first things I hauled in it were 6' shelving units... slid right in no problem.
The back seat is split, so you can fold down one side or the other. It also folds up against the front seats, and comes out completely.
I'm really happy with it.

That's cool! I forgot to mention...I really liked the look the rear spoiler gives it...adds some major coolness in my opinion...
I've tossed about the idea of having a moonroof installed in my truck ('04 Silverado Crew Cab)....but with gas prices going out of the roof...I've been contemplating selling it...it's a hard decision...I've only put 12 k miles on it since I bought it new and It's just about paid off....but this gas thing has got me thinking it might end up being a landscape object in my yard.
Don't want to take a killing on the depreciation though either...which I probably would. Not to mention this "Everybody gets factory employee pricing" is driving down the values of used cars...
Oh well....really think you guys'es car is neat lookin.

Very tastefully done, Dana. That's the nicest, PT cruiser I've seen. I think I'm tired of flames, so if it were mine, I probably would leave them off, but maybe Bruce will sneak something subtle on. I love how this looks like you added about 10 grand or more of value into it. The design fits the shape of the car. I like the two tone, and I don't think the grill is too much, it's very cool. heated seats? I got to get some this winter, my sis has some. It's the frozen doors that I have to figure out, to get into the car in the first place!

WOW!!! DANA; that's nice lookn'...good job on leaf there ol'man...might I suggest when planning further striping, using a darker purple on black and adding maroon to purple,(i call it cranberry), on the lower color? Wouldn't stand out, but when it did, it play on all it's colors...excitement w/sublety...and stripe the pants off it!!!!!! Lots of cool graphic shapes and designs....OR!!!!...a black, pinned in cranberry, dart; running fore to aft, between wheelwells, on lower side panels...that would balance out exisiting theme above and give that little car a shot in the arm, looks wish...IMNSHO
Todd, post your e-mail, I'll send you link to outfit that will change your mileage radically w/o buying a smaller vehicle!!! Besides, NO ONE is going to be out there looking to buy your "gas-hog", doesn't make sense to take a killing and end up in something you don't want to be in...these ppl. can give you the extra mileage and some fun too, all in one package...it's pretty cool, strange to some, but serious hotrodders out there, have known about these ppl. for a long time...cool system!!! Debbie, before going into fall, take keys and litely oil them w/liquid graphite. Slid them in and out of lock, oiling lock too, that way lock won't freeze later...

That's kinda what we were thinking, Frank. Thinking just on the back deck and the hood - but subtle. I just really like Bruce's scrolly-stuff!
It's my daily driver, so has dents, dings, scratches, but I try to keep it nice. We have been going to some local cruise nights, and actually have it entered in the upcoming Buffalo Wing-Fest car show Labor Day weekend Sunday.
There is a guy, Gary, on one of the PT Forums I keep up on, with a detailing business. He posts pics of cars he does... ones I don't know how to pronounce, let alone spell!!!
Has some EXCELLENT products in case anyone might be interested. Just let him know I sent ya! Perfect Auto Finish
I am VERY happy with the Ultimate Paint Cleaner and Sealer. VERY easy to use and the finish is like a mirror when you're done!

I hate to admit it Dana, but I was very much admiring your PT while staying at the Emlenton Bates Motel You and Bruce did an excellent job of detailing it and the photos really don't do it justice.

Yes yes... Frank and his "Happy Button"... Do it Todd, if you have half as much fun as Frank has with this system, you'll never get the grin off yer face.

I really love the two tone. I'd like to do that to ours someday. It really makes them look cooler than they already are. They remind me of the stock cars I watched growing up in the fifties and sixties. The profile is definately 37 Ford. I'd love to see one two toned in blue and white with some numbers on the doors. These are the neatest vehicles.

We had one of the first Cruisers ever to come to North America... We really enjoyed that car, but we did have some issues with it. We had it 4 years and racked up about 80,000 Kms. We found that the Bushings in the wheel assembly kept wearing out. A real Pain, and actually the car reeked after a while, lol I know it's funny but it actually smelled like rotten Socks, And no, I never left any around.. lol. But that Car looks sooooo sweet Dana.
I made a Mistake and got a new Mini Van, I was going to get the Convertable Turbo Cruiser, but got the bloody Mini Van.. Now I'm not cool anymore, my son thinks I'm a Dork! So I went out last Month and Bought a New 1100 Vstar Classic... I'm cool again!

Hey Dana, SWEET RIDE. My mentor, Harry Henkel's wife bought one when they first came out and she loves hers. It was gang striped in Atlantic City a few years ago. The car is deep purple and has all purple pinstripe flames and striping on it. Looks subtly HOT!
Hey Frank, is that the Overdrive system? I forget the name, but it is a gear splitter too? I looked into it for my 67 Mustang, just never did anything about it. Now I have a 4.7L Durango, it has more HP than the 318 and gets about 5 mpg better. Nice motor, always looking to get more performance and milage though.... Especially with a 370 mile trip to NJ a few times a year.
posted
Doug; yup, that and the underside turbo system, makes for some very impressive mileage figures for a 6700 lb beast, that's flat to boot!!! Gearvendor makes the splitter, eight forward speeds, where normal overdrives give about 11% over, this unit splits that to 22/28% over, them's some numbers!!!!! I'm good for 85mph @1750 rpm in 4th over, making 24/26 mpg!!!!!
The turbo gives a totally stock (well, maybe massaged alittle) motor torque to ease along quite economically, Squires Turboes makes kit that takes place of muffler system, it's under car, in the air stream, which cools it very well, giving up to 22% better performance just from running cooler than under hood setups... Entire investment...under $5000, I did the installs...that and goldballs credit, MIGHT get you a new ride!!!!! I get where I'm going in more comfort, same cost, have it when I need it, and it's paid for!!! (sorry Dana, I did chuckle loudly at your not so fast remark about your cruzr', they aren't known as speed demons, are they?)(in fact, you drive one like a OTR driver, flat-footed!!! Point it and pedal down)

Yeah... try hopping in the Cruiser right after driving the V8 GT Mustang... LOL!! But it's just fine for the driving I do, and has enough to get me merged out onto the highway.
I figure at my age, I got nothing I have to prove by racing anyone. Even in the Mustang. I can't tell you how many times I would have some young buck in his ricer, sit next to me at a light and rev the engine.
I would always sit there and thing, GEEEESH, you hafta race a 'girl' driving a 'pink' mustang to prove you got ballz?!?!??? Yeah... ok.
Really DO like the Mustang, too, though... another reason we're making the PT extra cool looking. I HATE to have to sell the Mustang... glad it's on a lot, not here at home for me to see everyday.
But 4 vehicles, a two car garage and a shared driveway doesn't quite cut it. As it is now, the Cruiser sits outside year round.

Hmmmm..... I wonder if the usual market for Mustang GT's would go for a pink one.
Frank, you think I could get a setup like that for a 2.3L mazda 4 banger?? I don't even use overdrive as it is, the truck can't pull itself through the rolling desert in that gear! Yeah, I drove the whole way to Vegas in 4th!! LOL! If you can get 24/26 in that beast I can't imagine what I could get.

Mike, you hit the nail on the head, your four banger doesn't have the hp/torque to pull a really big gear. Kinda like putting tall tires on an old VW Beatle, they would go faster in third than they would in fourth. In theory, flipping the gears on a go cart should result in a two hunderd mile an hour vehicle at the salt flats. In reality it just won't happen. Franks big monster engine can pull the big gear effortlessly. Niel, you rotton sock smell came from an undetected water leak. The water got in the car without being noticed and the sound deadener absorbed it and all kinds of funk started growing down there. I've had the misfortune to own a few leakers in my day. They always wait until the warranty runs out to start that crap. I had a Vette that was a year and a half old that the floor mats would float after a hard rain. I also worked as a body man in the seventies and spent many a day closed up in a trunk with a flashlight while water poured over a car trying to find a leak. Not to mention a lot of time spent on my back under dashboards of cars with the entire enterior stripped hunting a pesky leak.

I was one of the first 25-50 owners of PT Cruiser in Canada when I got mine in april 2000. That car was a sure hit on the street. everybody, I mean everybody was looking and asking questions.
I had to carry Windex and paper towels with me all the time just to clean the windows when the car was park for a while.
Unfortunately I had to get rid of it when we had our third kid. My wife still wants one of them. A Pt Cruiser, Not a kid!!!
Life is so good!

Hey George, I think if I stacked 3 turbo systems inline with each other.... I could stall the engine from the load. That under-car turbo system would be nice to have though. There are some fast 2.3L turbo Rangers/mazdas out there but they're using the whole engine from the Thunderbirds to do it. I'd rather waste my time building a lightweight body and shave 1,000lbs off the sucka.

Actually, it's not pink... more of a magenta. Officially called "Iris Metallic" and is an extremely rare factory color. Out of about 124,000 Mustangs made in 1994, only 1300 were this color, and I don't know how many of those were GTs.
Here's a photo I took back this spring.
I've taken real good care of it, been stored the past few winters. Only has about 78,000 miles on it. Power everything and fully loaded, but with cloth interior which is fine with me cuz I really don't like leather.
Actually gets great gas mileage (but I do put premium in it). Took it to a dog show last summer, cruise on, a/c on... filled the tank and figured the mileage 3 times cuz I didn't believe it- almost 28mpg!
Extremely comfy, easy to drive... and always know which car is yours in the parking lot! I have never seen another one this color in person, and have found only 3 online.
Also hard to sell because of how reliable it is. We had no problems with hopping in it one weekend and driving across the state and back. Some of my friends would rather rent a car, than take the chance driving theirs any distance.
I just don't want some stupid young kid to buy it, then put some oversized wheels and gawd-awful graphics on it!!
