Hi all, Does anyone know what font is used for the Chevrolet logo on the tailgate of late model pick ups? Customer wants to do his lettering in the same font.
Trust me...they change the letterstyle almost every year.
As Don suggested..post a pic, if possible. At least...let us know the specific year.
BoW will have several available

dont waste your time....on this....if its vintage chev tk say 46-72....there is a company that most of these people buy NOS/OEM REPLICA parts from....THEY ALSO SELL THE VINYL FOR THE LETTERING...for less the $10.00, also if yours is a restoration....THEY DIDNT HAVE VINYL LETTERS proir to the 80's...so vinyl on a vintage p/u will not score points for judging and really is outa place. guy here in town got a 51-52 electric blue ford panel truck...beautiful piece...EXCEPT HE STUCK VINYL LETTERS AND A PRINTED GRAHIC ON IT!!!! LOOKS LIKE S H I T!!

Late model as in 2005, brand new truck. Photo of tailgate attached. Customer wants his company name done in the same font, if in fact it is a font. Usually when I get a logo file (eps) the fonts have been converted to objects, so that won't tell me what font was used. I can make something similar, just thought someone might be able to tell me what font this is, if in fact it is an untouched font. Thanks for all the replies [img] [/IMG]

"Late model" means recent in English. I have no clue what the translation would be for Polish.

Maybe OP thought "late" meant deceased, as in died of very old age.
I'll have to get my Polish friends to translate perish into Polish. If I get Raymond to do it for me, it would probably come out something like: "David's hand lettering abilities."

Gord..I think you are going to have to "create" what the customer wants.
The way I'd do it is by starting with a font like Microgamma and modifying it, then doing a couple of inlines or outlines as necessary to get the "look" that is on the tailgate.
I've done it a couple of times for body shops who couldn't get original OEM decal kits for certain vehicles. It takes time, but "time is money!!"

Why not paint the darn thing? Vinyl isn't making sense on this one. If the tailgate lettering is embossed, you're going to have a ball getting the vinyl to fit right.
OOPS! Blasphemy!

Actually, Don, I read Gord's original question to mean that his customer wants his "own" lettering to be done in the same style as the tailgate lettering.
Since there will probably be several letters that aren't included in the word "Chevrolet", using a similar font and modifying it should do the trick just fine.

If you are still needing this, I will be happy to create it for you, matching the photo. It will be in vector outlines and I will give you the entire alphabet matching that style or just what the customer may want. I am retired, am my wife keeps me locked in the basement anyhow, and I love doing vectors.

I would try Bolster Bold as a font substitute or take Bob up on his offer of the complete digitized file. That is one heck of an offer!
