Our router is still about 4 weeks from being deliverd. The space is all ready and clean, the electrician comes next week to do the prewire, and the vacuum system and otehr support equipment are already here and waiting.

Phoenix & I just spent an hour on a conference call - tied in with a web display. We were speaking with the rep for Enroute 3.2 in regard to purchasing their 3d routing program. Our rep put the program through its paces for us, starting with the basics and then going from there.

It was exciting to see what the program could do and more importantly SEEING just what we might be able to make it do in the near future as we directed.

We peppered the rep with lots of questions and he quickly surmised what we were up to... that we intended to take the machine and program where it has never gone before.

There is going to be a definite learning curve... and a very steep one at that but I believe it is going to be a fun ride.

The program and router is capable of so very much more than most folks do with them from what I've seen. It's not just a jig saw or just for doing profiles. It is capable of producing the wonderful creations which live in my head.

To use this technology to its fullest capabilities we have to THINK differently. That seems to come natural for us. It will be a case of continuing to imagine the wildest creations possible and then figure out a way to have the machine produce it for us.

Phoenix & I have continual discussions regarding the best way to break things down into managable bits for production. We see so many applications, all around us - EVERYWHERE we look. Pretty soon just about everything around us will be new and imaginative... light switch plates, desk lamps, chairs, tables, doors, and of course all the shop signs and a thousand other bits and pieces will be examples of creativity manufactured with the router.

Bring on the router!

Congrats on your purchase Dan, adding a CNC router to our business about 6 years ago was a great move. The possibilities are endless, the main reason we bought ours was to speed up production and offer a better quality of finish on products till then, we cut by hand. The 3d routing is amazing in itself... im amazed at how accurately these machines reveal a 3 dimensional image in a series of steps/passes.
We never went for the software as we didn’t think we had enough use for it to justify the cost.
At the time the easiest plug and play software we got demoed was type 3 by visions numeric I think they are called. I also had a play with a demo CD they sent me out... great tool. best of luck [Wink]

We went with the MultiCam 3000 series router Jon. We had it custom built with a few extra specs for our particular application.

Our machine has all servo (no stepper motors), a powerful vaccuum table, a mister (for non ferros applications), tool changer, and has six inches of clearance under the gantry. We also have only single phase power available to us so we had to make special provision for this.

I did a lot of research before deciding in regard to the features we needed and had it narrowed down to three companies which offered similar, top end machines before we started our negotiations.

Initally we were going to go with ArtCam software but have switched in the last while to EnRoute as it seems to suit out needs and offers the best value now and in the future for us. We also can get full local support at no extra charge which will probably be a handy feature.
