The week following our trip to the Mazeppa Muster I received a call from Dan at the Midwest Sign Supply Company informing me that I was the winner of one of the draws at the meet. It turned out to be $50 U.S. worth of their product.
I was very happy with the news and took the opportunity to buy a few 1/2 pint cans of 1 Shot. I can now start practicing some of the things that I was taught at the Muster.
I thanked him for the support that his company gave to the meet and without the support of companies like his, it would be hard to continue the tradition of letterheads.
Anyway...I got a call from UPS a couple of days latter, asking if I wanted them to handle the import of the package? And, did I have all of the needed NAFTA paperwork????
They informed me that I would pay the driver a total of,,,let me see...The original amount + the duty + the handling fee + the paperwork...then you convert the total amount over into Canadian funds THEN you add the taxes.
Final cost $42.54 --- 83% of the original cost.
Thank god Mike wasn't giving away a Car!
We have the longest undefended border in the world, mainly because there would be too much paper work and duties to start a real conflict.
I think I am breaking out into a case of Mad Tax Disease. LOL

I believe since it was a gift (you won it) wouldn't have to pay all that. I'm not sure how Dan shipped it to you but since it wasn't necessarily a business transaction being "the gift certificate" bought it for you, you could of had Dan stretch the truth a little on that one. On the paperwork when shipping it you claim that the shipment is a gift rather than a bought shipment. Then the duties would have been a lot lesser. Sarah : )

Hiya Monk, What about having the product shipped state side to a friend that may be close to you? I don't know your location, it may not be feasable, but it's worth the suggestion?
Havin' fun,
