The issue there isn't clutter, it's a severe mental illness. I'm not saying this to be mean-spirited - the woman needs serious professional help.

These pictures have been going around the internet for a few years now. First of all, if the kid is so miserable living there, get a job and move out. Secondly, call the fire department. The place is a major fire hazard and she will be cited until it's cleaned up. Not that it would do any good for someone with that serious of a problem.

Every time I think my house is a mess, I take a look at something like that and feel better. Believe it or not, we have friends who have an apartment that looks pretty close to that. I love them to death but wouldn't step foot in their place for all the tea in china.

Oh man... I could have SO much fun in that place with a solid Ash baseball bat.

I just LOVE the sound of Ash breaking glass.

The only time clutter bothers me is when it interferes with daily life. Clutter that's tucked away into a closet I never have to get into doesn't bother me, but when the time comes I do gotta wade through it, I usually end up filling a few big yard waste sized trash cans. [Smile]

I could not possibly live in a place like that, no way no how, and my place isn't the model of cleanliness or organization by any means (but at least it's manageable).

Earlier this year when the garage was being rebuilt there was a dumpster in the front yard. I definitely took the opportunity and tossed out a whoooooole lot of stuff.. big stuff, small stuff, things that you just don't feel right putting into a trash can. The funny part is after I had tossed out just about everything I could find and the garage was finished the dumpster was still out there for a couple MONTHS - and every week when the truck came to empty it, crap kept mysteriously showing up in it. Turns out, neighbors were coming by under the cloak of darkness to get rid of their bulky crap too. hahahaha!

My girl friend had an aunt like that. No one had heard from her in a while and the neighbors tried to go in to check on her with their key. They couldn't open the door! The paramedics had to crawl in through a window and to get her out. She had fallen by the door and they couldn't even get the door open. She laid there for a couple days before anyone found her and almost died. She went into a nursing home and her only surviving relative (who cared about her), my friend, had to clean out the house! What a treat THAT was! One of the main problems was in with all the junk was good stuff and an occasional stash of cash. So everything had to be gone through with a fine tooth comb to find the family heirlooms among the used kleenex and old MacDonald wrappers! It took her MONTHS!! It was a nightmare! People like that have a sickness. They can't part with anything and it just gets worse and worse.

I have a wealthy Used Car Dealer customer who is a "collector". Mostly memorabilia.

Every inch of wall space, ceilings, and of course self space and most of the floor of four large private offices is covered in "collections". Even his desk! You name it ... he's got one! Everything from Elvis posters to lead soldiers.

Whenever I drop in to give him an account I could spend hours there looking ... it's like a museum, antique shop, junk yard all rolled into one.

He also collects cars. He had to buy the lot across the road to fit them in too. Gotta have several hundred. Sure he cries everytime he has to actually sell one.

He drives an funny little french panel van (rare) covered in magnetics. And mean covered!

Wonder what his home is like? [Smile]

Notice that she did have some organization skills? The way she hung the calendars, certain areas showed she was an organized clutter fanatic. I'd bet she knew what each and every box held too.

Wow, and to think I complain about the clutter in my shop? Drives me nuts if the top of my counter has stuff on it. That's just insane.

I have no idea how people can live like that. I'd be going nuts.

i have a computer nerd freind that has a place like that. its full of computer nerd stuff. LAst xmas he had a stroke so we had a yard sale to help pay his rent. You literally could only walk from the front door to his bedroom. With a small path to his computer station. Not only did we pay his rent but we made a couple thousand for him too. No idea where all the stuff came from.

But, as said, he was mentally ill. fully cunctional but a problem. OCD. Obsesive compulsive disorder. WEll. his place is now full again with computer stuff. Cases, keyboards adn you name it. No idea where it all came from.
