I've been wanting to find time to share this news & finally got a pic uploaded to show off
I have probably mentioned the fact that my step daughter works for me part time. She has 2 kids that I have known since they were born. (Actually the first time I spoke to my wife Linda, she was telling me her daughter was in labor with her first grandchild Malia, now 9)
...anyway her second grandchild is now 6 years old, his name is Ean (pronounced the same as Ian) & since his mom & dad surf several times a week.. he has been surfing since he was 2.
The week before last Saturday we were at the surf contest to cheer on Eans first competition. He was there to enter the 6 & under heat for shortboarding. Everyone was allowed to enter to events, so he also entered the body boarding competition for his age group. He did well in both events & qualified to advance to the final heats in both events.
..well, he took second place in body boarding (which he never does.. because he would always rather be surfing)... but for the big news...
Ean is the Champion surfer for the 6 year olds!!!!

Ok, I gotta show off another couple pics now... check him out minutes after receiving his 2nd place trophy (his first ever award)... doesn't he look like this softspoken, passive little boy... & then 20 minutes later with 2 trophies victoriously raised in in his outstreched arms... he looks like he has grown so much...

...just one last one, what "proud Grampa" post would be complete without announcing that Ean's uncle Adam (my wife's son) is the proud father of 7 week old Kaiya shown here with Ean's older sister Malia:
