After viewing David Butler's excellent "Sign Shop in a Can" video recently, I got it in my head that I should try something similar.
I put together a little CorelDraw presentation/tutorial and I have it online.
It is no where as polished as David's presentation, but I think it might be of interest to some.
If you are interested in viewing it, it is located at...
My thinking is that, using this method, we might be able to assemble a catalogue of "visual" tutorials that newcomers to CorelDraw might find helpful. Of course those that are conversant in other programs could add theirs too.
I don't know where these videos could or would be stored but I do believe that they might be quite helpful.
Just to let you know...after I downloaded the video creation program and got a grasp on how it worked, the actual time involved in creating this particular presentation was the same length of time it takes to view it plus another couple of minutes to upload it. Pretty simple procedure really.
Looking forward to any thoughts.

Very neat Dave. Now you do one of these every morning and every night and I will get Corel figured.

Dave: The vidio would not load or play on my system {A Mac} with "windows player installed and running. Could you present it a different way so that those of with the "OTHER" graphic system could enjoy your handiwork?

I was able to download the file to replay it whenever I need.
Just curious....could you save that as an Mpeg format with the program you are using to create the films? It would be playable on more systems that way, including the RealOne and Quicktime players.

Thanks for the comments folks.
To answer a couple of questions...The program I am using can only record to WMV format, and that is only viewable with Windows Media Player. There are other programs available for purchase. Obviously, I was not willing to spend real dollars on something that I wanted to "play around with" for fun.
The video is an 888K file so it isn't very big, but my available webspace is limited so I can only post a couple of them at a time, at this point in time.
If anyone has a request for information on some specific procedure in CorelDraw, send me an e-mail and I'll see if I can come up with a concise step-by-step video on it and e-mail it back to you.
I believe, at this point in time, I will just archive anything I create and decide later what to do with them.
Disclaimer.... I am NOT the whiz in Corel that many others are. I just know the functions that apply to the type of work I do, cutting vinyl.
Anything to do with PhotoPaint is mostly an unknown to me.
Thanks again for the feedback.

I have purchased similar tutorials on Macromedia Flash and have thought about trying to make one myself. The guy on these tends to ramble on at times, but overall they are good.
You did a great job by keeping it simple, but not leaving out key information or steps.

That will be it for a couple of days...with these added to my existing web site I am close to my allowable limit. I'll leave these up for the weekend in case anyone else wants to see them, then I'll take them down.

Boy Dave , those are great!!!!!!! You are waaaaaaayyyyy to humble in your knowledge and willingness to share. I'd be totally lost without you in regards to using Corel.
Another good subject to cover would be working with layers, as far as assigning colors to.

Keep them coming Dave! Vector is new territory to me... but I'm pretty sure I could teach you a bunch about PhotoShop and bitmaps.
Thanks for sharing!

This is great Dave. I've been trying to learn Corel for a long time. I usually go back to SignLab and then forget the Corel stuff. I just get too frustrated in Corel when things don't work and I can't figure out why. I would gladly pay for for a tutorial "answer" when I'm trying to figure something out. Maybe there's some potential here for you if others feel the same way I do.

there are dozons of softwares that will "video screen capture
Most of them will allow you too::
If you move the cursor, launch a new program, type some text, click a few buttons, or select some menus -- anything that you see on your screen will be able to be recorded and even the sound. You can use Screen Recorders to develop videos to demonstrate features of a new software, for creating movies used in user training, for tracking the progress of a program that executes for a long time, or for recording the sequence of steps that cause the occurrence of bugs in faulty software.
You can also speak into the microphone while recording is in progress to include audio with the recorded video.
Some names.. TechSmith's Camtesia Studio < a good one Camtasia Studio is a complete solution for quickly creating professional-looking videos of your PC desktop activity. Anyone can Record and create a full-motion video tutorial or presentation, in real-time, and publish it in the format of their choice. No multimedia or programming experience necessary!
* Record your activity on the screen, your narration and system audio * Edit, enhance and add interactive hotspots * Publish in a wide variety of formats including Flash, CD-ROM and streaming video
River Past Screen Recorder < another reasonable one..
Quick Screen Recorder..

As previously mentioned, I removed the two videos from my website. It is a matter of available space for me at this point.
If anyone wants them just e-mail me and I'll send them to you.
Hopefully, some that seem to very conversant with video encoding will step up to the plate and add something else.
After viewing David Butler's most recent, MOST EXCELLENT, additions to his "Sign Shop in a Can" videos I am hoping to raise the bar a little here, as far as presentation is concerned.
I trust that what I am trying to do doesn't bother David too much, since I am working with CorelDraw and he is working with PhotoShop. They are two totally different programs and both have their pro's and con's.
My aim is towards guiding folks who are new to Corel through some VERY basic steps that may be useful in the sign business.
Stay tuned for future humble attempts!
