I registered for the show & seminars on Wednesday. In the last 25 hours, I have received at least 5 giant spams (i.e. huge PDFs or emails with tons of graphics about stuff I couldn't possibly give a damn about) I'm on dial-up so of course it took forever to get them and they aren't anything I want anything to do with!
I had to give them my email address for my registration stuff to be sent to me.
Had I known NBM was going to sell or give away my email address, as soon as I got their brochure, it would have went straight into the garbage.
Steve & Barb, thanks for not selling our info!!!

I know the feeling. I went to the ISA show and now I'm getting stuff from the screen printing institute or something to come take classes and all sorts of other companies. I don't mind it if I requested stuff from a particular company at the show but things I don't do or am not interested in
Think on the bright side - You're getting the business's & names from the email spam ahead of time so when you get to the show you can givem Heck for sending you all that crap

I have several email addresses that I use for different purposes. If I register for something that isn't likely to be ongoing, I will often use my gmail address, which is equivalent to hotmail. Let the spammers spam away at that. I never check it anyway.
For most companies, I have a different method. My mail server allows me to set up a "catch-all" account. As long as the email has my domain name, it will come to me, regardless of what comes before the @ sign. For example, I ordered something from Staples once, and used staples@catjuggling.com. In the future, if I ever get email with address on it, and it isn't from Staples, I'll know they sold me out. My experience has been that most companies do not sell email addresses. I can't wait to catch someone though.
By the way, my domain "catjuggling.com" was inspired by an old Steve Martin standup comedy routine - I don't hate cats.

Russ, I love Steve Martin. You are so funny to remember and use the term cat juggling! I almost forgot about that. I also use different email addies for different purposes. Love....Jill

I own my domain and my mail server sits next to my file server so I have 'unlimited' number of mailboxes... I've just never thought of using it that way... doh!

On the other hand . . . you could have simply told them you don't use e-mail, or are not online . . .whatever.
It is highly likely that are some people left on the planet who do not communicate via e-mail and you could have checked the box N/A . . . . then all the junk mail from the event would have come straight to the mail box on your street in paper form . . . for fire-fuel . . .
At any rate . . .I refuse to give my e-mail address out . . .since it is entirely unrelated to my signbiz anyway and more for personal use . . .

I know this doesn't really help, but they do somewhat warn you that you are going to be getting email from them: "*By providing us with your email address, you authorize NBM and/or exhibiting companies at NBM shows to send you information." I think I am going to snail mail my registration in this year. -Marek

I have 7 different email addresses...I can tell pretty much where an email is from by which email address it's on. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I am not too sure I would blame the trade show people. I haven't registered for that show at all and have been hit with an unusual amount of SPAM in the past 48 hours. Most of them are foreign language, (looks like German) \

I'm very careful about giving out that email address... and ALL the spams I got were "visit us at booth..."
I called & bitched at a couple of them, mainly the ones that send giant pdf files. They told me they got the addy from NBM. When I called NBM, they told me they don't give out the emails, so I told them that's odd & that some of the spammers have told me they got the addy from them, then their story changed.
