Glad to flip through the posts and see that everyone here is as friendly as ever. I haven't come by lately. I lucked out and got a job building lettering and logos for a tour company in Alaska. If you've ever worked for these Alaska guys, you know that they wake from their long sleep on the first of March and have about 6 months worth of work to do before that first Cruise Ship pulls in on May 8th. It's good money, ... but no sleep.
Anyway, the rush is almost over, (as are the checks...). The company wants me to fly to Ketchikan to finish up the installs.
I know what to charge for time spent actually working, and I've charged 50. or 100. dollars for a commute to a job if it takes me an hour or 2 to get there. I've never flown to the job before, though.
They will be reimbursing my air ticket. I'll be there for 2 or 3 days. (I must admit, I have a little bit of guilt thinking about billing for time not spent actually WORKING.) How would you bill this?
Jennifer

I charge travel time out of town at my shop rate. You have to because that's what you would be making if you were back in the shop instead of sipping martinis on a flight to Alaska.
Seriously, you have to recover your basic $X a day when away, otherwise you are losing money.
As long as you inform your customer of this situation before you start, there should be no problems.
