I'm working on 2 8'X8' painted diabond signs. The background is hanpainted and the second pic shows some of the paintmask removed. I've got to paint in the lettering, airbrush some, add outlines and apply zip track to the bottom 2' of the sign. Versacamm is running full boar and I've got lots of other work to squeeze in between drying times!
This is from a design I farmed out to Stevo...what a great way to keep the workflow moving, thanks Stevo!

I should be getting dirty today, but I haven't made it out to the shop yet.
I met w/ a customer (financial advisor) this morning about designing her company a new logo.
I applied five prints to some pvc panels for a construction company, and did a small set of mags for them too.
Just had a little lunch, (my mom's stuffed peppers ... yum!) and now I'm going to put on some dirty clothes and head out to paint on a sand blasted sign in the works for a veterinarian, and revamping another customer's (who is a cpa) existing carved sign. It needs fresh stain, and the carved letters need to be gilded. I haven't worked w/ gold in awhile, so I'm abit nervous.

Our shop is quiet this week as we are taking advantage of the good weather to get Giggle Ridge spruced up for opening soon.
In the shop there are lots of projects underway. The parade float in the foreground needs final details... the parade is in 10 days. The polar bear sign needs to be finished and moved out of the shop before we can get the float out.
And there's other work in various stages of copletion scattered around the shop which will go into production once again next week.
But today its time to spend a little more time in the sunshine.

I'm writing a letter to a disgruntled would be client, who wasn't pleased that I wouldn't do his sign for the price he set. I'm sending my regrets that I wasn't able to accomodate him, explaining my pricing structure and reassuring him I wasn't just trying to get the better of him.
Living in a very small community where every one knows everyone elses business means you had better keep customer relations good. I have offered to sell him the substrate and assured him that he could probably have someone local cut the blanks to shape and hire a student to do the painting at at least $100 cheaper than me, but they don't have any overhead....
I have a horrible taste in my mouth....

BTW - we close on the house next door to ours next week that we will use as a rental. The main reason for the purchase is the 1500 Sq/Ft detatched shop that is 30 feet from my back door. That will be used for extra storage for the bucket truck and all the unneeded supplies stacked around in our current shop. I can't wait.

Today we worked on location at Venture Logistics. We delivered three - 4' X 5' X .080 aluminum directional signs lettered with light blue reflective and 2 channel posts. Then we removed the old numbers from seven 53' trailers and replaced with new ones and then added their logo to the front of each trailer. Whew! I'm glad we are almost finished with this job. Working on walk board and ladders sure is tiring. We delivered 2 sets of 18" stencils on Monday. We lettered 7 trailers,2 day cabs, and 1 spotter truck earlier this week. We have 8 more spotter trucks to letter and number, then we will be finished with this job. The best thing about this job is that the check will be here tomorrow. Don't you love it when your customer looks out for you and pays you promptly! Judy

Not makin any money, but keepin myself busy. I did these over the weekend.
And this vector art rendering from the 1910 newspaper masthead below it, for a nonexistent glass project. The light yellow "is" gold leaf, red background "is" stipple blended. All depends on what your definition of "is" is. It's just a vector drawing.

Finished re-furbishing the fireplace mantel. Then did some edge prints for my daughter's company. I had done this originally for her.
...now she has changed her name a bit as she does realtime captioning only now. Not court reporting and discoveries, etc. I also had to adapt the design for an edge print label for her new "machine"

Geesh, a week went by and I'm still not done painting those signs! Been one of those weeks!
You guys are working on some cool stuff!!
Gerry, I'm curious if you laminate those prints before installing, and if you install wet or dry/with or without transfer tape????
Don, that recreation is great! I live right close to Winnipeg and was shocked to see a guy from Florida end up with a 1910 newspaper from the prairies!!

I got a whole lot of boring stuff going on, but it pays the bills
Here's our set up area...
The lamination room with some digi-prints curing...
The fabrication area where I'm assembling signs...
and a boring sign that I just completed...
There are 2 - 3' x 10' faces behind this sign that are boxed up and ready to be installed too.
Havin' fun,

This is what I have been working on this past weekend.
The logo is 20' tall x 30' wide. The tower painters called me on Thursday wanting to know how to hang the pounce pattern they had purchased from someone else. I explained that flat paper does not lay well on a round ball, and then told him how much I would charge to draw the logo on two sides of the tower... After he regained conciousness, he proceeded to tell me that it had to be completed before Tuesday morning. I told him to add 15% to that price and Fed-ex a check for the deposit, and I would start as soon as I received the deposit. I finished it last night .

Hey I have a little twist to the creative puzzle of projects here. I have been woodcarving characters for years and during a recent gathering of glass folks from all over north America, I wanted to create an award for someone who has really given a lot to glass carvers...well...his name is Tom Eddleman and so I created this carving for him (the original will go to him) and the first recipient of the Eddleman Award was given to Fred Self) molds will be made for this annual award and the cast one will go to Fred). Tom is always trying unusual methods so the carving you see will be him pointing at a piece of glass on an easel...in his golfing attire...foot on an enema bag....the title..."I GOT IT TO WORK!"
It is ready to have molds made and then I will go in and airbrush the piece and mount them to a base. I do think I may be adding a funny hat to him...but we shall see.

One is a sheriff that stands next to the jail in Frontier Town, & one is a cartoon lion for the kids to stick there heads through. I have 16 steps from our wood shop up to my sign shop & boy are my legs tired!!!!

Sorry Si, I don't have a finished pic. They had intended to use a pounce pattern and paint it themselves. All they wanted me to do was draw it so they could paint it. It still took some time to layout the grid and draw the logo at 20'x30' two times.
Plus, on Monday morning I was over half finished with the second side when the owner decided it needed to be 5' to the left. As you know, the grid pattern has to be distorted from the center point to look flat when finished. I had to start over with the entire grid, plus working around the old marks. The tank company paid me for drawing the layout, and the owner paid for the time to move it.
They put it in the air yesterday, and will do the painting as they do the touch-up from flying it up there.
This is what it is supposed to look like when finished.

I know just how you felt! I was called in to do a logo and name on a 60 foot spherical tank. We met to discuss size, placement, etc. Arrived next morning and drew it all out for the painters, gave them an invoice and left. 5 o'clock they call..."Not big enough!" they want it as big as possible! I said "Then you have to paint it out!" "We already did, how soon can you be back?"
Yes, the 2nd invoice was twice as large!
