Long story short I just installed a set of channel letters and the usual stucco dust fell upon some awnings below. I've installed 12 signs in this center and I usally just slap the awnings around like an ugly girlfriend using a broom and the dust usually just falls off.
Well not this time, I've been buy 3 times with my preasure washer using a plastic brush and soap & I barely get it off. COme to find out some burr head got the great idea of selling the mall the idea of painting the awnings to match the window bronze siding with a lifetime guarantee, of which he has already had to some out several times to repaint.
So I'm asking if anyone knows what this guy may have used to paint the awnings. I'm guessing it's rolled on and waterbased to flex a little with the wind. The property management is bitching so I have to go back & paint this ^$#k!n awning. Is this a special awning paint?

Hi Erik, I think it might be a water based acrylic paint,it is quite good for this type of work, sticks well and is quite flexible ? you have quite a problem there, do you intend to repaint them ?? Brian. www.brian-the-brush.com

You're gonna fit in just fine here Erik! So, the awning had FRESH paint on it or was it completely dry? Can't they have their awning guy come out AGAIN to paint? If it is your "kuff - up", I would definately have the same awning guy do the repaint.
posted
No they weren't wet, since it's painted it just has that dry ready for anything to stick to it surface. Especially when the sun warms them up.
But I'd rather do the job myself, because it's been sometime since the lastime it was painted that way I'm going to mention to them that it's not going to match up perfectly since it's going to be new paint. In all honesty it's not that bad but the MGT is just nitpicky. Keeping the mismatch in their head i'd rather they just pass on it. It's just one awning out of 8 in that section of the mall. But just in case, I want to have the knowledge to do it myself. I don't want to pay someone to come out with a roller and a lil ladder, something any tard on the street can do and charge me a couple hundred for it. This was not a new channel letter I did, just a reloction to a previous client. So it's not like a made real good money on it, this is also been one of those nightmare jobs where things just popped up on me.

Surely you could have come up with better adjectives other than "burr head" and "tard"...
I think the solution is preventative. I would have covered the awning with one of the $10 blue tarps available at K-Mart. I know, kind of like locking the barn after the cow ran off...

It usually never ever, ever rains in San Diego nor all of a sudden get windy. I had Home Depot heavy duty tarps covering the awning, better than K-mart. They got blown off spilling the dust all over the awnings

I agree with OP - you're not the one that guaranteed the awnings. I can't figure out why any dust would stick. I think if were me, I would definately cover awnings, and use some sort of hand clamps, in the future to avoid this headache.
Pardon me, but being from MN, I've got the 'nice' thing going. Sounds like you are really angry, which is understandable.
Could you explain the "Get Killed walking your doggy!" thing? Is that a CA saying or part of a song?
I'm confused.

What's "Heat" and what does getting killed have to do with awnings?
I'm still confused.
I totally understand your anger and frustration... heck, I'm a redhead!!! But people can naturally be abit taken back around here with some attitudes and sayings, until that person's general personality and such is figured out.
You may want to hover around, posting more, letting us get to know you, before you start refering to beating something like a red-headed step child. Then, since we know you and know what to expect, some of us will be less likely to be surprised by your references.
Oh... ps... I see that you are pretty new around here, so you may not know this, but Bruce and I just had to put our beloved dog to sleep a few months ago, so the reference kinda hit me hard. I'd rather not lose both of them...

Well then maybe you should just review my previous posts if you want to get to know me. I can't wait around for everyone to catch on to me, those who have read my posts in the past understand me. There are to many people on this forum, I'm sure a lot of people just got offended from the "girlfriend, doggy, tard" reference. As for doggy and awnings, they are the same as apples and oranges.
Dana, trying to mix a little humor with frustration. I'M NOT COMING IN HERE SCREAMING, RANTING AND RAVING LIKE THIS.
ps....I just put my board shorts on and i'm on my way to the beach. Lifes to short to worry about an awning for to long.

Sounds a bit arrogant for someone who just got to town, don't you think? If you walked into a Letterhead meet acting like that and being insulting and crude, how welcome do you think you'd be? Might want to think about that before you post again.

Kim, your putting waaaay to much emotion into this, others who posted behind my original post got it and could comprehend my thought & humor. If you can't see that I don't know what to say to you, out of 5008 members I'm sure a lot of them will get offended in a lot of different ways you and I won't and can't understand.
Cheers

hey Dik! (that is yer name right? or something close enuf anyway) there's a difference to people just happening to get offended... & going out of yer way to offend them by being a dik. You may have started out just happening to offend people, but now you are clearly just being a dik without the courtesy to call someone by her name.

I can see the thought of your post. You screwed up and made a mess on the awning. The customer beefed about and you try to make them out to be the bad guy. Now, that is funny, in a very sad sort of way. Be a professional and step and deal with it.
I found nothing humorous in "beating like an ugly girlfriend", "burr head", "tard", or "Get Killed walking your doggy!". It just isn't funny. I'm sure the others were just ignoring your comments and didn't "get behind them". No comments on other's part does not constitute the condoning of you actions.
Not to mention, Kimberly told you her name and you insist on calling her Kim. You are showing a lot of class there, Erik. Oh, yeah. She's one of the classiest people here. So was her Dad. That apple didn't fall far from the tree.
*Editted for spelling Erik's name right... Oops.

Oh... I'm not humorless. I have a warped sense as well as the next guy. Heck, when we got the dog in at the SPCA that had a horrible chemical burn down his back, and had to put him back together with staples... then we named him "Zipper"... or the kitten that came in that was set on fire and we named her "Toast"... !! That's pretty warped I'd say!
I just couldn't understand why someone would tell someone to get killed because of an answer to a post. I just thought it was kinda harsh.
I still don't know what 'Heat' is. Maybe if I did, it might make more sense.

oh ok... thanks. I thought he was telling Bruce to go get himself killed the next time he walked our dogs. Thats what I couldn't understand. I didn't think Bruce's response was THAT negative against Erik.
I think that was the biggest problem. Especially since he didn't take the time to at least explain it.
Thanks.

Well I'm not easily offended & I handle criticism quite well. I'm the one that would have a smile on my face as I'm arguing with you. I don't get huffy and puffy about the little things. Yeah, things happen and I'm not trying to blame anyone for what happened regarding the awning. I'm just trying to understand the logic in someone going to a mall and selling the idea of using paint on an awning? The General Contractor doing the TI can't even comprehend the logic in it either. The person who painted the awning has already gone out several times to repaint due to fading. The awning now has a ready & prepped surface for anything to stick to it. Now I get stuck with someones shotty garbage because dust sticks to it.
So again, I'm asking if anyone uses or knows...because I sure have never heard of "painting" an awning....I've heard of using dye to recolor an awning. I might as well use a roller on my car to repaint it.
I just got back from the beach and really relaxed, but & I can see how all the people who have nothing better to do today really came out.
If you don't like the dry humor or get it, to bad. I'm not here to make people laugh nor do I lick my finger to see which way the wind is blowing. I think a lot of people have read this thread yes, I'm also willing to gamble if I cared... that since I am new this forum that they see the same old people who have nothing better to do coming out again and again and their reading this and shaking their head, and that's going to be the silent majority.
Kim deserves nothing more other than "Kim" from this "Schmuck" Howly boy, relax and enjoy your Sunday open the door and let the paint fumes out, congrats on being the only one who got the meaning behind my Heat quote

Well your class shows through, and your name says it all. Maybe a new can would help.
I think enough people already had confirmed what I thought about painting an awning, good dialog & feedback it was & very much appreciated, very much...truly.
But like you and a few others it seems that this thread has attracted a few of the grouchy & unhappy like a moth to light. So far I haven't disrespected anyone who hasn't attacked me first.
I'm more than happy to roll with the punches.
I've been more than happy to answer threads, ask some myself, but seriosly OP....lighten up there guy...so serious.
If you want to single me out and not give feedback that's fine with me...free country & internet & who ever else doesn't like me. But again the few who are finger pointing and trying to make me who I'm not, haven't given any feedback just tearing down how I may have asked a question.
For those who have given me feedback thank you, I very much appreciate it. I think this thread has really gone off a side road & i'm far from the person who will walk away when put out of context or de-characterized

Gotta agree with the majority here Eric. I can live with your insensitive references to ugly girlfriends and tards, but messing with Kimberly and my other longtime Letterhead pals is a no no.
None the less, I still have some hope we can all take a deep breath, overlook a bad start, and come up with a solution here. From where I sit, I think you need the lowly street tard, along with his lil' ladder and roller. He has knowledge you don't.
I've been watching your posts Erik. You're intelligent and witty. With a bit of humility and respect, you'll fit in fine here. I'm hoping that everyone gives you another chance and that you choose to take that chance. You have too many cool emoticons to lose.

I'm with Steve. Been here a long time and watched alot of people come and go.
There is an enormous amount of knowledge on here. And along with the diversity of people, comes the diversity of personalities.
There aren't too many people on here I agree with 100% of the time, but that doesn't mean I like or respect them any less.
It would probably be easy for me to take offense to being referred to as grouchy or unhappy, or having nothing better to do than to read posts on a Sunday afternoon. I also don't feel like I attacked you at all, especially considering I thought you wished my hubby to be killed while walking our dogs.
But I'm not, cuz that's not me. Most people on here know me pretty well, probably those that have been here as long as me, know me more than they want to...
And... I think the guys were just jumping to the side of Kimberly and I, although they might have been a bit harsh as well, thanks for the intent.

Thx Frank, there just happens to be one next door.
Dana, you were not a part of the grouchy or unhappy group. I think there was just miscommunication & mis Interpretation
Steve, I don't think i've been very disrespectful at all or call anyone here a vulgar name.
The "tard" with the roller has done more damage than good and it's not just with what is realted to my job, it's just something I know the Property MGMT has had to eat with no way to come back being short of having to buy new awnings, so now their stuck with this character.
Majority? This small tight nit clique within the forum is not a majority, they are far in the minority. If you want to kick people like me out, that's up to you. I've monitored a couple of this clique in other topics also and they pretty much sit at the same table. I'm sure your email and IM was going off the hook on this thread too.
Si Allen, I've been in business for 11 years & I'm fairly resourceful on my own with nothing but repeat business. I don't need your advice or the advice of the others who seem to cause problems to pave the way on how I conduct business or solve problems. I already have had the answer but sometimes it's interesting to socialy and buy means of using resources like this forum to reinforce ourselves. Your giving yourself to much credit to think more people besides the ones who have posted are standing behind you and agree with you.
I've been pretty civil throughout this diversion from the real topic posted. My original post was taken out of context and twisited me into being arrogant, why? Because I can't share and openly have humor some people might not agree with? I should have boring & dull posts until people get to know who I am, when does that happen in my 100th post? Who decides that? So because I stick up for myself against a small group within a large community I'm put on notice of being kicked out. I haven't monitored every thread within this Forum but is this the way it is here? If you openly disagree with a "longtime" member here and their friends jump in all over you your supposed to fall in line and shutup?
Sorry my parents taught me better. If that's the way it is here there's is a big problem, it's not reflective of how I was told this forum is. If there is going to be disagreement here it needs to be with common sense, logic and substance not flaming and name calling.
But this is a private forum and not a public forum. I'm willing to take a deep breathe and new start with all but I still stand behind what I have said and what I believe. I have to be true to myself and not change just to fit in somewhere. If diversity in opinion and character is accepted here then this is a grand place to be.

I really feel bad this happened Erik. Letterheads are not a snobby group, but we do seem to think differently about some issues. We take great pride in our work. Rolling on a perfect coat of paint is something many of us actually consider a skill. The next thing you'll tell us is anyone with a computer can design as well as a Letterhead.
Let's not continue down this road. Nothing I hate to see more than people beating on each other. We're here to help out and learn together. Hope you got the answer you were seeking. Good luck with the awnings.
