This is a job we just finished, with all the cpmpetition both good and bad out there, I was wondering if I'm living in the real world.
Like it or not the competition is here to stay and with advances in equipment almost anyone can start and kill off experienced sign shops.
The prints on this job are aprx 32 x 72 on both sides and theres logos all around the vehicle. What would you say you'd get for this type of job, Realistically that is, I know what it's worth, but what would you get. I understand that there's different market situations affecting prices, but that's whats interesting about this business.
Thanks

Neil: Perhaps the question you need to reflect upon is this. What would it cost this business to rent an outdoor ad space in your area for let's say one year? The side of a bus would cost production time, installation, PLUS the ADVERTIZING VALUE for the "site impressions" this ADVERTIZEMENT would generate. A bill board is "static" and yet has a value that the advertiser must pay for on a month to month basis, which usually requires a yearly contract. I am making this statement to try to bring us all closer to the reality that we aren't selling materials plus labor. WE ARE IN THE ADVERTISING BUSINESS.
All of us need to quit worrying about the dope down the street that can't feed his family because he/she is the cheapest sign person in town. Many others on this board have said loudly and well. Do better work, not more work. Raise your prices{and the quality of your work} to the point where you are doing what you like to do, the way you like to do it, and charge what it is worth. You will find over time, that you then have the business you deserve. Years ago I STOPPED wasting my money on yellow page adds. I personnaly solicated the clients I wanted to work with, and stopped doing the "Birthday Banners" for Mary's grandmother @ $1.00 per square foot. Folks WE ARE PROFESSIONALS! ACT like it! THINK like it! CHARGE like it!
Next time you feel like you can't get that kind of money for a sign project........ call the local Chevy dealer and ask what his Flat rate is to fix your truck! THAT SHOULD GIVE YOU A WAKE-UP CALL Sorry for the "RANT", but if WE don't raise our own level of commitment no one else will. I won't let the "cheap sign guy" down the road drive my sign shop truck, with me in it, Backwards of his cliff!

I wouldnt touch it for less than a grand. Im sure you can get more if you look at the value it provides the client. If someone else wants to do it for less then have at it.

Hiya Neil, It looks straight forward to me. I assume that you did the designs too. Did you have to pay for the images or did the client supply them at the appropriate resolution? Assuming it was straight forward, the tuck doors were as flat as they appear and there weren't several changes, I would ballpark $1500. Retail for the prints would be around $900 and the rest would be design and installation.
Havin' fun,

$1000 minimum here... it's pretty much the equivalent of doing 2 8'x4' signs... except trickier to install!

Came up with the $1,000 ballpark here too. But you asked what would I get for it? Nothing, probably would be shopped to death and given to the lowest bidder.
I do get these jobs occasionally but only from referrals and regulars. Someone just shopping is probably not going to buy at this price.
