I would like to fit a/any vector clip art border which is straight (horizontal or vertical) to a circle similar to the way one can fit text to a path. Email tech support from Corel mentioned creating a blend from the clip art and then place the blend on the path. So far I've been unsuccessful trying to do that. Can anyone give me more step by step instructions? Thanks, I'll appreciate learning a new skill!

I'm not sure but it sounds like you need to use the "Interactive Envelope Tool."
You select the object, then you select the "Interactive Envelope Tool." You can then use the circle or other shape as a guide by which to contort the clip art border object.
If you don't already know how, you will need to learn how to manipulate bezier curves (nodes and node handles...or you can just click and drag the envelope lines themselves)...play around with it.
Not sure if that is what you need or not, but it sounds like it.

I'm not having any luck. The envelope tool puts the border design into a circle but all I want to do is fit the border to the path of the circle...not fill the circle. Am I doing something wrong? Still need help. Thanks!

No that's a little different...that's using a circle as an envelope (I think). There is a tool called "Interactive Envelope Tool": you can select it from the tool box, which is usually on the left side of the work area.
Here is a picture of it:
You select an object. Then you select this tool. Doing so will put an "envelope" around the object. The envelope shape can then be adjusted by manipulating the envelope's nodes, node handles, or paths (the envelopes paths will display as dotted lines).
It takes some getting used to, and I am not confident it will provide the results you are looking for...it's just the only thing I can think of to do something like that in CorelDraw (and I am not familiar with other vector art programs).
Another possibility is to simply manipulate the graphic itself, using the circle as a guide, but that'd be even more work.
I know it seems like you should be able to "fit shape to circle" or something, but I am not sure if there is an easy way to do what you are asking in CorelDraw, at least. You may be expecting more from the program than it can give; but perhaps someone else knows of a better solution to this problem.
I may have missed some feature of the program as I have never needed to do this before.

Lori...Is this what you are trying to do? It is one of the borders in the symbols library.
I used the envelope tool to re-shape but if you go too far, as in the right hand image it distorts everything past the point of recognition.
Obviously there is no "magic button" to press to get things to conform the way you would like (wish there was though!)

Lori, do you mean set a series of vector shapes to a circle? If that's not what you mean maybe I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish. Can you post a sketch?

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand how to post a sketch on this site. I understand that I have to type in the url of my image but I don't know how to get that. Sorry. I would like to take straight clip art. Art with no curve in it at all. Say you used that for a border on a napkin design. Then you wanted to design a plate to match so you would want the same design around the edge of the plate to follow the circle of the plate. I understand more than one "piece" of the border may need to be used to complete the circle but how do you transform the straight clip art to fit the curve of the circle? Corel said to create a blend from the original design using the interactive blend tool and then I should be able to place the blend on that path. So far I've had no luck doing that. I appreciate all of your input. Thanks! Lori

Lori..If you want to e-mail me the sketch I can post it here for you. I think I understand what you want to do, but a sketch would simplify things a lot.
My e-mail is in my signature at the bottom of this reply.

I do not think Corel or any program can do that kind of magic. At least not easily I think this is going to be a case where you will have to draw it. You have all the parts above now all you have to do is fit them to the circle.

I think that the closest thing, in Corel, to what you want would be a pattern fill. You might try playing around with it to see if you can get the desired effect.

Lori..The only way that I can think of for that particular design would be...
First, break the design down to only one pattern instead of two.
Draw your circle and place the design inside thew circle at the top middle.
Duplicate the design and place the duplicate at the bottom middle of the circle. Since the design is probably a group of several objects, selrct both designs and the circle and align all three vertically.
Select only the two designs and use Ctrl/d to duplicate them, then use the rotation tool to rotate that duplicate 10 degrees or whatever so that the duplicates lie next to the originals. (You will have to play with the exact number of degrees to get the right location)
While the duplicate that has been rotated is still selected, hit ctrl/d again and again until the whole perimiter of the circle is filled.
If you are lucky the designs will fit nicely with equal and/or appropriate gaps, if not you will have to play around to get them right.
Hope this helps.

Hiya Lori, It's doable but may require some effort. Here's a sample...
This sample was done using a true type font where the text was fit to path. If you convert the file to a true type font, it will work.

I basically drew the circle, placed the design at the top center of the circle, duplicated it and placed the duplicate at the bottom center of the circle. I then selected just the two designs, duplicated and rotated them 90 degrees. then chose the 4 designs and duplicated and rotatewd them 45 degrees, repeating the steps using 22.5 degrees then 11.25 degrees.
By enlarging or reducing the size of the original design you can then either have the repeat designs touching each other or have gaps between them.

Thanks, everyone...Dave, I understand what you did but I'm still looking for a more automated method (I'll probably end up using your suggestion anyway but...) ...Checkers, I sm still intrigued by what you said..."convert the file to a true type font"...now is there a way to convert that border graphic to a true type font file to make the program read that as a font so it will fit it to a path? Are you still with me? Lori

Hiya Lori, It's actually easier than I thought. Just take your clip art and export it as a TTF. There's an option in the export menu. From there, just follow the directions and then install the font. The whole process took me less than 10 minutes. Here's another file using clip art converted as a true type font.

WOW! Keith and Checkers....two very creative solutions!
AbE: Keith, I think that's what the folks at Corel were trying to tell Lori, too...but it makes it easier to understand when it is seen as per your tutorial.

AWESOME!!!! Thanks, Keith and everyone else who tried to help me. Yes, I agree that is what Corel was trying to tell me to do but without the step by step Keith provided...I was making all kinds of errors! This method works seamlessly! Thanks again, Keith...everyone! Lori
