Just curious if any one here uses a palm pilot? I just picked one up and it seems like it could be a powerful tool, especially for pricing. Does anybody have any other sign or business related uses for a palm pilot?

i use it for measurements and info on site in conjunction with my digital camera...i get tired of losing little pieces of paper...plus you can put some pictures on it..so you could show some of your portfolio if need be.
plus its a good calculator...and there's a numbers game on mine i love if i'm sitting in an office or waiting.

I use the palm desktop software (free download from www.palmone.com) to hold my phone numbers, task list, etc. I use the Palm pilot mostly as a backup for that although i take the palm with me when we go on vacation so i have all my phone numbers, etc available.

I also have a program called "Secret" from linkesoft.com which has a desktop and handheld version where i store all my vital info (credit cards, medical info, passwords, etc.) (32 bit encription so it's safe).

I also have a database (Thinkdb) which i used in my former career but haven't converted it over to my sign customers (probably overkill).

I don't have any sign specific applications although i do like Keryn's ideas above.

Thanks,
Steve

I have had a few Palm OS pda's....

I gotta say though, that I had to return my last Palm Tungsten T2 3 times for screen failure and digitizing problems.....

If I did it over....and will do next time....I am buying a Pocket PC with the MS interface...

I didn't really care for the Palm Desktop software...plus it's buggy...mine keeps making duplicate and triplicate entries when I hotsync.

Palm Customer Service ranks among the worst I've had to deal with.

Edit: I should have mentioned - they are very handy for all the reasons everyone listed....get one with bluetooth so you can wirelessly get emails and such in hotels, and various wired facilities.

I use my Pocket PC quite a bit. On the serious side, it has MS Word and Excel, in case you have any pricing or other business stuff in Excel. It also has a task scheduler, alarms, contacts, etc., Wi-Fi and BlueTooth, digital camera, digital video, and a voice recorder.
On the 'fun side', it has Wi-Fi and BlueTooth, digital camera, digital video...plus a neat little program called NEVO, which is a programmable remote control for electronic devices - I can control the TV, DVD/VCR, Audio system, etc. But what I really like to do is go to public places where there is a TV or sound system and mess with things...
Yeah, I know I'm still a kid...

John, what kind/brand/model do you have? I've been thinking about getting a Dell brand, as they came pretty highly rated in reviews?

Thanks...oh, and wi-fi/bluetooth would be the bomb! [Smile]

I also use mine sometimes to preview designs for customers. They can see what their sign will look like, and they never ask if they can keep it to show the partner, friend, cousin, etc.
