I was just curious what other shop owners consider their bread n butter work.
How do you aquire that particular type of work? ie.. word of mouth, direct mail, flyers???
Though I've done all types of signs ranging from Free to $10,000, my favorite work is and always has been vehical lettering. (Pick-ups, vans and box trucks - minus the rivits)
Nothing fancy. Two to three colors of vinyl and maybe some air-brush.
I find this type of work easy to aquire.fun and quick to do. It also creates lot's of happy customers for word of mouth advertising. Plus, the profit from these jobs makes for a good day as well. (Working out of my home in a quite country setting).
So, how about you?

Mags & Coro are my bread and butter. I ain't proud. 80% of my customers are word-of-mouth. My favorite thing, of course, will always be painting signs. Or painting vehicles. Or walls. Usually when they come to get their coro, folks glance around in awe at the painted panels in my office. They come back to me for this stuff. It's all good. Love....Jill

Mostly trucks and boats--paint and/or vinyl---with or without airbrush fades.
Getting too old to play "wood butcher" and build signs anymore, and not inclined to start again.
My own pickup is lettered to read "Vehicle Lettering" with the other usual stuff, and not real big at that--only advertising is word of mouth. No sign in front of the house---hasn't been one since about '67. Stupidity for not having a sign seems to work for me--regardless of differing opinions.
Also have other income---as in Social Security, and pension from my old real job. Therefore, no need to put up with much BS from PITA customers.
FWIW.

For me... 'bread & butter' = 'every kind of everyday signs that are below a certain price range, that are not very challenging, or all that much 'fun' to do, but so in demand, they pay the bills plus some.'
Bigger money hi-end jobs, though mabey still not 'fun', are 'wind-falls' and blessings directly from the Lord.
Creative, artistic FUN jobs (regardless of the price) are simply special gifts He lays at my feet to keep me from packin' up and leavin' just yet . . . . .
