Awesome pic Mike!! That camera seems to live up to it's impressive stature
BTW, at first I thought you were basing that hypothesis on subtle behaviorial clues... but now I see you had slightly more obvious clues to work with. (still daylight out here)

oh it's definitely a full moon! Both my dog and my cat are driving me nuts. Running around chasing each other and being all around weird.

Kimberly, yeah my dog was especially cranky last night. Of course, it may have been because she never got an opportunity to get outside the whole day with the rain. She was bouncing off the walls this morning.
Scott, it's a Canon EOS D20 with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens.

I just tried it on my desktop, centered it with a black background. Oh my gosh, it's pretty amazing! Thanks for the free wallpaper?? I can say I know the photographer that took it.

No worries.. it's a nice picture but still lacks the information needed to produce a phenominal print. An 8x10 at 100 pixels/inch is OK, but not worth much money.

Shiela, the full moon here in the desert is bright enough to drive by without headlights. When it shines, you cannot see a single star anywhere, the brightness of the moon completely drowns them out.
I should be able to get even better detail when the moon starts to wane (or it is wax?) and the sun hits it at a different angle, casting longer shadows.
The camera isn't real big, the lens is only about 11" long fully extended. Here's a pic of the camera and lens. The black piece on the end of the lens is just a plastic hood to shade the glass from the sun.

LOL . . .it's a shame y'all can't hardly grow nothin' out there . . .them bright full moons would come in handy for plantin' & harvestin' . . .
BTW . . .full moons are bright like that here too but the trees & hills cast lots of dark shadows...and there's nothin' like bein' about 16, totally stoned & stupid, drivin' down a dirt road on a full moon night runnin' about 75 . . . with no headlights . . . ...or even with headlights . . .

That's nice, Mike. Can you see any left-over bits of lunar module, to dispel the "they weren't really there" hoax?

HEY! I saw that same moon last night and it was in Montgomery, Al. for a LONG time before it got there . . . (lol)
At 7:15 PM it was HUGE light beach ball at the end of the highway . . .but it later shrank to a regular basketball size . . .I bet there was'nt much left by the time it got all the way to Arizona . . .
LOL
On a serious note . . .did you know that crime increases dramatically on full moon nights??
That size of the moon thing is just an optical illusion. It only looks so big at the horizon because you have other objects "nearby" to compare its size, it has nothing to do with the atmosphere acting as a lens like most people think. You can hold your thumb up and compare the sizes at horizon, then wait til midnight and compare again - it will be exactly the same size!

BTW . . .ain't many things prettier than the light of a full moon bouncin' off the rollin' waters of the Alabama river when you get on it way away from any kind'a lights . . .and ain't no better sound than the pickin' of a guitar or two and the sound bouncin' back of the water, and banks of soapstone walls . . .
*sniff* ...sorry, did'nt mean to get all poetic and mushy . . .waaaaaaaaah...that ol' moon is just SO perty . . . now I'll sing 'Ol black water' and hear that music ALL might long . . .!!!

OK that pesky moon went and disappeared on me at night (it's not rising til WAY late/early in the morning now) so here's a photo of it in the daytime.. not quite as dramatic as a night shot but you can really see the craters poppin up now.
