I'm looking to stripe a boat here soon before it goes back in the water. Question, how well does 1-shot hold up on a gelcoat finish? Normal prepping??? Where it's at, I can't spray anything with out taking the chance of over spray on other boats. Thanx for any input. CJ

I assume a water line or cove stripe? I would use vinyl...... buff hull to a glass finish clean with Rapid Rogers help How many boat mfg's use oneshot???? It fades and chalks and scuffs too easy. If ya must paint.....hire the marina

I used to stripe boats when I lived in So.Florida, prep'm well and paint'm. Photo below is one Mister C done for a ski boat, only thing cleared was the leaf part.
The scrolls took Jeff Crank about 12 minutes to paint.

I've been lettering plastic boats with 1-Shot for 37 years. Prep well, and I'd advise against the hardener because it's expected that in a few years it might get stripped and lettered with a different name. Using the catalyst makes the removal rather difficult, and it holds up fine without it. Boats usually get waxed periodically and that eliminates chalking. Anything will fade.

For striping,... some of the Yacht Hull Enamels brush, flow, and cover fine. Inqiure at a Marine Store or find a boatytard handyman/painter for input. Before I use them or 1-shot, I usually prep with acetone (done very quickly on area to be painted). This has been succesful for me.

Thanx for the input. We tried putting a vinyl stripe on it last year, the stripe is about 30 feet long. Compound curve. I'll look into the marine paint, maybe west marine or boats us sells it. I've lettered boats with 1-shot and haven't had a problem. I was wondering how paint was going to hold up against the use of bumpers. Also the boat spends most of its time under a roof, so the sun isn't a big issue.
