I love Bob Seger....but I can't hardly stand it when "Old Time Rock and Roll" comes on the radio....Yuck! I've heard that thing a bazillion gazillion times.
It's totally lost it's appeal for me.
What are your most dreaded rock songs?

Todd, same thing with Seger's Hollywood Nights!
How about Free Bird?
We FINALLY got a classic rock station here and they play the SAME songs OVER and OVER and OVER again!!!

I listen to a classic rock station mostly. It's a local station but the entire day's broadcast is actually syndicated "The Classic Rock Station" and they don't really play too much of anything on a consistent basis so ya really can't get tired of it.
Now if I start flippin stations, ya can't get away from Snoop, I guess since he only has one song that can be played on the radio they play it once every 20 minutes.
Unfortunately, it's the RIAA and ClearChannel that decides what you hear and how often you hear it on the radio.

This one, they don't play, but a little funny.
Mountain-"Nantucket Sleighride".
I played it once for my son, when he was maybe 9 or 10, in my quest to teach him old people's music appreciation.
About 5 minutes into it, he told me that he liked it. About 20 minutes later was asking "does it ever end?"
I agree with those that complain that the classic rock channels play maybe 20 songs in rotation all day, every day. We have one classic rock channel in Tampa that is 'all Pink Floyd, all the time"

Anything by Shania Twain. Not rock admittedly but every time I get in the other car to go somewhere I seem to get "Lets go girls" as soon as the aerial goes up and the radio kicks in. Sadly it takes at least 3 seconds before I make it to the button and have to live through another few bars. Cher should also be summarily executed along with Britney, Kylie and Johnnie Bloody Farnham (local) The Eagles (as a group): Dead boring and overplayed to the literal death. Pink Floyd, Boston, Aerosmith, Van Halen, ZZ Top (after Deguello), and any 80's movie soundtracks should be laid to rest. Disco of all types should be given a decent burial for example: Bee Gees, ANYTHING by Georgio Moroda (sp?), Village People, soundtracks to Flashdance etc. So much new stuff and so little tine.

I loathe Bob Seger's music. Here, for some bizarre reason, all the younger kids listen to the old classic rock stations. The hip-hop station went belly up, much to my relief. There is also a Disco station that has a huge following among the young.
I listen to CDs, but if my son leaves the radio on in the garage it's all Southern rock, which I really don't like, especially FreeBird. I swear I was the only kid in High School who hated that song.
Here's my list of songs I never care to hear again: Get Back (Aerosmith remake) The aforementioned FreeBird "That Smell" "Cocaine" ALL Bob Seger and Boston tunes "Gimme Three Steps" "The Breeze" Most George Thorogood stuff Most Van Halen stuff All Journey stuff, Guns 'N Roses, and any other glam/hair band crap (but I do love Queen)
Well, you get the picture.....Love....jill

. . .I can't think of one song I get sick of because I don't listen to it if I don't like it . . . I have 6 FM stations on the truck radio . . .about 4 of them pick up within 90 miles of Selma. Beyond that I'm scannin' or seekin' stations for the town or state I'm in.
(My 6 AM stations are set on the talk radio stations in Selma, Montgomery, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa & Meridian, Ms.... )
It's kind'a fun to try to guess a song in the first few notes . . .'Name That Tune' . . .if I don't like it. I just punch another station...if I don't like any of the songs playing I go to AM talk radio, but more often I just turn it off and think. Driving alone is good meditation time.
However, I realize if you're riding with anyone like me, who is constantly punchin' stations, this is way worse than enduring the song you hate...or so says Emily...LOL. But I DO try to defer to any 'guest' riding with me . . .
In the shop...week-days, no music. Talk all day. Saturdays is radio talk/game shows and THEN: Piano Jazz, & Bluegrass. The other program is 'Jugs, Jukes & Jazz and it's all 20's-30's music. Sounds like old-timey cartoon music. It's fun and interesting stuff.

Anybody listening to Steve Miller Band on classic rock radio would think they only did one song (Take the Money & Run).
It seems odd that out of so many bands and songs from the rock era, so many great bands have been ignored. And of the ones that do get airplay, only the same song or two. I imagine that the royalty issue comes into play somewhere, as if I had a clue.

We have a cure for this up here....a new radio staion just came on the scene a while ago...
They play music so far from mainstream, it's like the best movie nominees on Oscar night.....you just keep saying who is this?
I have listened to said station several times during different days and have never been able to name any song that I have heard....or have I ever heard them repeat a song!
Why can't regular stations move beyond the same 20 songs? Seems everyone I know would welcome it!

Bobbie, I wondered when someone would say "Stairway" ... I was such a loyal fan, I couldn't say it myself, but i did search awhile to see if I could locate an on-line image of the famous sign in Wayne's World (couldn't find it )
Dale, we just got a station like that around here. It works like (well I guess it IS ) "Public Radio" & on top of being som completely reliable to play excellent music (& 80 - 90% new to me)it is also commercial free. All the DJ's are volunteers doing it for the love of music. Most of them are also local musicians, but clearly with talent & experience in Radio as well. The station is Manao Radio & can be heard on www.manaoradio.com I WILL be donating to that station for sure. I sometimes sit in the truck after I arrive somewhere to hear out the rest of a song.. well, actually I've always done that except I hardly bothered with radio for the last few years, untill this station. Now I have to get an antennae for the shop.
(did anyone else notice a small Queen rift brewing... )

Doug...hahaha...yeah on the "Queen"....I personally like them, except I agree with Don on Bohemian Rhapsody....
I hope nobody says, "Stairway to Heaven".....that song gave me (a shy teen) the opportunity to put my arms around some very nice young ladies at the high school dances....Hubba hubba!
Out of that context, I'm sure I would've gotten hit with a purse.

How about FREE BIRD, FREE BIRD and FREE BIRD. Also, Black Sabbath "War Pigs" and "Paranoid", or Thorogood's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer". I think that's the new bathroom break song. I've been listening to my daughter's CD's lately, (Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Blink 182, Hoobastank etc.), getting tired of the same ol' same ol'from the radio.

Your daughter might also listen to a band called 'Green Day"....if she listens to Blink 182.....they're pretty good too.

Man, I guess I'm lucky to have 106.9 the fox out of Va, Beach to listen to. All classic rock, seldom a repeat a song in a week! Station has been running 20 or 25 years like that! No format changes, steady great music. But I dislike the Beatles "bought" programming on Sunday mornings.

Every song that 93.1 (The Bear) out of Iron Mountain MI plays. Actually the list would not be that long because they repeat the SAME songs as much as 3 or 4 times a day. I think they can boast a CD collection maybe 50 or 60 strong, and only playing one song per CD. They also have the dumbest promos I've ever heard.

After 3 years at the door as a bouncer, "Mustang Sally" gets my vote. It's gotten to the point that my fellow doormen and I have started "B.A.M.S." = Bouncers Against Mustang Sally. With a little luck, we can stop this from happening every weekend at bars across the world.
"Sweet Caroline" and "Marguritaville" are right there as well.

Barry, my son, when he was little used to sing, "You give love a bandaid"!!!
Hey, does anyone remember that old AWFUL song, MaCarthur Park??? I think that was the name of it, but some of the words were, "Someone left the cake out in the rain....." HORRIBLE!!!! I never could figure out why someone would write a song about that!
I always thought Supertramp sounded like they were crying when they sang the Logical song.

The above messages are EXACTLY why I don't listen to "clasic rock" very often anymore, and have moved on with the times. Give me Tool, A perfect Circle, Alice in Chains, Incubus.................... variety is the spice of life. "Classic Rock" Stations that play the same songs over and over are probably the leading cause of suicide, not the rock and roll itself.......

Isn't deregulation great? The giants come in and buy out the little guys and water it down to a point that no matter where you are in the country your sick of the same songs ... haha
What really bugs me ... the "classic rock" station at the shop plays some good bands but (as don said) only the same 2-3 songs ... AC/DC (Bon Scott's) is still one of my favs. but they play "Big Balls" almost every day ... with 20 years of cool songs they overplay the joke song ... grrrr
Dan, around here, I can think of 2 Rush songs you would be sick of.
Thankfully I stay under the commercial music radar with other sources than radio
