If anyone can tell me anything about this cutter (good?/bad?) and possibly how much one that is approximately 3 years old and used very little would be worth I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
R.T.

RT,

I have never been happy with my VE. If I had the money I would buy a Summa or Graphtec. It never tracks properly for anything much over 3-4 ft. long. For easy weed borders it gets so far off it will cut right through the letters or graphics rather than around them. Mine is the 24" model but I would assume they are similar.

I would think $1000 would probably be high on this machine.

I have a 24" VE lynx that we use as a back-up. It has always worked well and has never had any problems, except that it is slow. It has always tracked perfectly, and in fact I have used it to cut over 30'(feet) and it was dead on. When we bought it we thought it would be nice to be able to offer something other than what our Grande Format Paint machine would do, as this was the primary part of our buisness. It didn't take long for everyone to find out that we cut vinyl, and soon our cheap little 24" VE cutter was making more money than our very expensive printer.

THis is my main plotter,(geez, its my only plotter at the moment) and we have used the heck out of it over the last three years or so. I have cut miles and miles of vinyl on it, and it is still as good as the day I bought it, and it was used when I got it. I paid 1500.00 three or more years ago, and it has been worth every penny! I paid a lot more for the little 4b we retired!

the GRC-76 plots at an impressive 48" per sec (diagonal straight line), and tracks well. I love mine.

Contrary to what OP said, it is not a knock off, it does use parts from Roland, and others, but it is a very solid machine.

That is the model of cutter we have. I don't have another cutter to compare it to, but we've been using it for 6 years now and other than changing blades we have not done anything to the machine. It has been a good machine for us. We cut 10' strips everyday without tracking issues.

I believe that when we bought it the machine was probably worth $3500-$4000 (we bought it as a package so I don't know what the cutter's exact value was.

If I were buying the cutter you are talking about I would offer $800-$1200.

Just to add to my above post:

This is my second VE plotter. The first one was shipped back within 4 months because it was worse than this one. They sent me a new one no charge but I still can't stand the thing. Maybe it's just my luck!! Everyone knows how my luck runs!

Luck of the draw RT.

Them plastic parts just don't cut the muster do they? (heee)

This post seems to have turned south....say OP, what's the penalty for incestin' a plotter these days? [Rolling On The Floor]

I'm also on my second VE cutter. I have the 24" GRC-61 T and it's about 3 years old. First one got struck by lightening.....which I guess is better than allowing it to get incested.

Anyway, both of them worked fine and track fine. I hardly ever cut much over 8 feet....but I can cut 8 feet over and over without repositioning the vinyl, so tracking hasn't been a problem.

My screen blanks out all the time when you touch it, and you have to turn it off an on again to see the readout. I know the buttons by heart so it's no big deal.

I've had a roland and a graphtec. No problems with any of them other than normal blade changes and the tephlon strip once in a while.

Thanks guys,

Lots of pros and cons about this plotter. I have seen it and it IS a well built machine. My friend has had it for about 3 years with no problems whatsoever. I'm not looking to buy the machine unless he gives me a price I can't resist. Mainly I'm helping him get an idea of what it might be worth when and if he decides to let it go.

And to answer you're question Joe, no, I've not got the CM-24 fixed yet. I'm not going to invest $600-$800 in a plotter that is really only worth about $1000 or less. Now IF I can get it fixed much cheaper than that I might go for it.

Joe, I had a girlfriend once that got off on it, but,........I don't do the NASTY with ANY of my machinery!! Especially if they're kin to me!! hahahahaa [Eek!] [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor]

See ya,
R.T.
