Got another one of those design blocks! Need to come up with a logo design for a place called Life Line Counseling Center. Needs to be professional and calming. I must be to agitated because I can't come up with any ideas I like so far. Tried the monogram approach and didn't like what I had. Did a one off a couple years ago with a life preserver theme, but it doesn't make a good logo. I would like to eventually come up with one where the clients that need their services don't feel embarrassed about going. I think my batteries are toast and I need a recharge!
If anyone cares to share some idea starters that would be great!
Thanks all...

What kind of counselling does 'Life Line' do? Who do they serve? What's their mission?
I would try to design around that sort of information, rather than around the name...maybe something that speaks directly to their clients...what do their clients hope to get out of the relationship?
For example: If this was addiction counselling, what do addicts want? (no, not another fix) Addicts want freedom from their addiction, right? Or, you might want to give them some sense of hope that freedom is actually possible. How could you communicate that graphically?
Hope that helps get the juices flowing in the right direction.

Put on some of your favorite music. Open your drawing pad to a fresh white page and make a list of every word you can think to describe what this center does. As your list fills, relax and doodle.

What about a graphic to the left side that has the proverbial strong arm offering a rope going outta the frame down and to the left? A strong diagonal there, with maybe the LL in the upper left and the CC in the lower right...or not, but then off to the right of the graphic you could left justify the copy in whatever font you deem appropriate.

Thanks you guys! It's for "life" counseling. The hurdles that life brings and some trip over I guess. This is one of the harder ones to do for me, but writing down some words seems like a good idea and I'll work with yours too Barry.
Get a few more ideas and then I'll post some drafts and work it into something and let everyone see it evolve.

Chuck, several years ago, I made a nice routed sign for a family counseling center about 4' wide by 6' tall cedar, double faced and hung under one of those roof-over sign hangers. Anyway, their logo was a man and woman holding hands, then the brother and sister were holding hands in a silhouette form. Maybe if you added a puppy and kitty holding hands (paws) on the end that would set it off. This was not a registered logo so it is up for grabs. Although this is not what you need, maybe someone else could use the idea.

Handle that rope idea cautiously - it almost sounds like a noose Sorry Barry..... LOL Light blue and mint are both very calming colors. Actually most pastels are. Bridge over troubled waters - is that too corny? ray of sunlight through a crack? rainbow?

What type of information do you gather from the client in researching their logo/identity needs? I always send the client (by email or hard copy) a list of questions I've developed over the years that will help me get a grasp of what creative imagery they may need and want. There's a download of a client questionnaire and a creative strategy document on the CreativeLatitude.com site here. It's a good starting point for developing your own set of questions. There's also a number of articles on the CreativeLatitude site that might be helpful.
I do try hard to avoid using human form graphic imagery in designs for many nonprofit organizations, counseling centers, churches, etc. The problem is such images are just so overdone - and they usually need to be very generic to convey an identity inviting to all people. Instead, I try to incorporate organic elements, typography that conveys a welcoming message, unique shapes and finally colors to communicate the needed message.
To get past the "creative block" on a logo project I MUST get out of my office and away from my computer. In fact, most of my best ideas come to me while gardening, in the shower, reading a good book/magzine, in the car or being somewhere like the beach. It recharges my "batteries," clears my head and allows me to be much more receptive to the occasional "brain fart" of creativity.
Jeff, nice site. Has some good information there. I usually just ask a lot of questions as to what they do and their perceived image of their clients, but that doesn't always work either.
Here's what I've got so far and would appreciate any and all comments.
Instead of me trying to tell you what I was trying to convey with it......you tell me how it makes you feel and remember you're walking into a Counseling Center!

Love the design. As for the colours... As much as I like them, I can't help but think of baby colours. I find it too soft to convey "Life Line", a symbol of rescue; shouldnt' that have something to do with strength? Does that make sense? Good looking logo though, I bet they'll like it.

Thanks for the input Lotti. That's why I like to post them. I get to thinking down one track! When I was going for softer colors I didn't realize I was designing for a nursery!
It's over in the Portfolio Page so I can revise it.
Thanks again...

I love the colors and the way it conveys the message. You might want to try adding a light outline of a darker blue to the copy; I think that would make it pop but without losing the soft character.
