hi guys, my name is Pete aka Pistol Pete. I am 28 years old and living in Portland, OR. I came here from Australia where i completed a 4 year apprenticeship in sign painting. i was very fortunate to work with a true master, and in turn taught me all the very valuable tricks of this great trade. Since leaving Australia to come here i have been unfortunate enough to be stuck working at a place that doesnt value my qualities and the management of this particular shop isnt the greatest environment for someone who is commited to making a great impact in this industry. I want to go somewhere with all the skills I have mastered and put them into great use at a new sign shop that could really benefit from having such a person.
I know pretty much all there is to know about traditional sign painting and sign making aswell as the more modern approach of vinyl and digital graphics etc. My website has a lot but not all that I have to show and it can be viewed here..
www.geocities.com/pistolpetesigns
what I would love is if any local people can point me in the right direction, maybe you know of someone that could really use having me work for them, any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated. I want to make a difference in the sign industry in Portland, not have all my skills go to waste for someone that doesnt care about them, thanks a lot guys

You're ahead of me Pete. I still don't know "everything there is to know about sign painting" ! Been painting 45 years...must be a slow learner.

Good luck with your search. Something will turn up.

jeff... dont you rememeber when you was 28? we knew it all by then.....so we thought.....59 now and still awe struck by some of the work the talented ones can create and still want to aspire to their capabilities.
pete all i can say is get yourself to a LETTERHEAD meet somewhere. let the ones that have been doing this for years see what you can do.....doors will open once you knock on a few.

thanks for the quick replies guys. i just want to say i dont want to claim to know it all either, i sure have a lot of fun learning new things aswell. i have the utmost respect for the 'ol timers if you will. its because of one that i know what i do now and for that i am very grateful. what would be grate would to work for one of you guys again, my boos i owe it all too back home was Stephen Bear, in the Newcastle area. he wouldnt be on here because he's so old school he only just got a computer a couple of years ago, lol. but what they man could do with a brush was amazing, and i want to carry on what he taught me. i only say i know a lot at age 28 because how many of us young guys know how to gold leaf, or know what mock blocking is. i may be only 28, but my love of the traditional sign painting is very much old school, i cant let it go.
Say Alicia, how far from Portland OR is Federal Way?

oh Bob, sorry man, thats the good old free geocitie service at its best, 2 people look at it and it shuts down for an hour, lol. i have plans to update to a real one soon, if it does work check it out though, id love to know what you masters think

That's "OZ" Randy ... as in "Oztraliah" [Smile]

Pete: Who did you work for here? Why move to the US-of-A ? Mind you, I liked Portland and Oregon, but winters suck in North America!

But, if you are not nailed down to one place, pick up your brushes and travel more. I did.

The data base on Letterheads will give you plenty of contacts and I'm sure you would be welcome everywhere.

Welcome to Letterville Pete!

A search of the Letterville Database produced a list os 124 shops in Oregon that have taken the time to register. Here's a direct link.

http://www.letterhead.com/mdb.cgi?Country=USA&State=OR&City=&Find=&After=&Before=&Page=all

Personally, I'd be calling Alicia and making tracks to Washington State. The job at 6 Flags sounds like a good one to me.

Pistol Pete Maravich... how he thrilled the fans of Atlanta and New Orleans, eh?

That was when basketball was good.
