Hey all, I've been muddeling through Omega (2.0+sumtin) for about a week now. I've figured out most of what I need through other means but am stumped on this.
When exporting an eps file I get a box around the image. It even happens if I "export selected" Example .... I lay out a 4x8 sign with posts and ground markings (let's say 8x8 total)... I want to export a 2 inch flourish from the sign to be laser cut and mounted on the sign. I select the flourish and choose export selected ... my eps file has a box the size of everything(8x8) around the 2 inch flourish.
This sucks ... I hope I explained it right. Is there a way to get rid of the box?

I never do that, so I don't know offhand, but I ran a few quick tests & saw that I could replicate the problem when I exported "selected" as an .eps file, & then opened it in illustrator... but when I exported "selected" as an .ai file, it didn't give me the extra box when opened in illustrator.
I still don't know a way to get the contour as an .eps w/o an extra step... but I usually "save as" .ai files instead of exporting, in which case you still get the whole file, since there is no option for choosing "selected"
If you don't get a solution here right away, there are many very proficient Omega users at 4edgetalk.com

I tried to go to that website and it said it was under construction. All you could do was email for an answer. Maybe I did it wrong but I couldn't get any help. Sorry.

Mark, You can probably export "selected", but if that is giving you problems.....
1. Select the object 2. Control-C to copy it. 3. Control-N to make a new page 4. Control-V to paste the image into the new page. (I normally assign all objects black, with the background set to white) 5. Control-S to start the Save As sequence 6. Scroll down and pick Illustrator AI, GSP (it is at the top of the list)...don't use the one at the bottom of the list. 7. Click on the Options, click on Vinyl Only and make sure Organize for Printing is checked. 8. Click the Save button and you will have a generally useable element in most programs.
It should open fine and look fine in Illustrator, but to be politically correct, 1. Control-A to select all. 2. Assign the complete object black, which fills the centers black. 3. Click Object>Compound Path>Make (opens the centers again) 4. Save again.
In Omega, you can use the Export, Save, or Save As commands, but be sure to use the GSP version of the AI or EPS filter near the top of the filter list. The other one was a third party filter, and it was poorly done. Sounds like the one you are using.

Thanks for the new work arounds. I've been re-importing the eps into corel and re-saving after getting rid of the box. Used to just work with grafix advantage ... gotta love those "upgrades" that create more work.
