I need a new John Deere hood for my old John Deere tractor. It seems the log I accidentally bounced off it yesterday kinda smashed it to smithereens.
I'll be watching my email for when someone kindly sends me one...

Please don't tell us that you're riding around on (in?) some boring, every-day, normal looking tractor...or that you're going to restore it to its original ho-hum condition!
I'm going to my happy place now.

geeeeeze, there we go again.. did Dan say FREE? maybe he just wants a link to those e-commerce tractor hood sites, free trial hood downloads, or he was fully expecting to compensate someone for the legal transfer of a single-use tractor hood license agreement!

You are entirely right, Doug. I reread Dan's post and he definitely didn't ask for a free hood. I think some of us are kinda kneejerk when we perceive someone using this website to try to get a free tractor hood.
I think that probably all of us bought and paid for our own tractor hoods and it peeves us when it appears someone expected to get their tractor hood for free.
Sorry Dan for the misunderstanding. Here's a link.

Okay, i went to freetractorhoods.com and couldn't find one for my tractor! Now dan needs to make a new hood out of that log! Imagine how the hood could look, hollowing out the log and turning it upside down, hinging with saplings and moss to fill in other dents. I can't wait for the pictures Dan!

Today while plowing snow the headlightassembly of the tractor musta fallen out... and I sort of ran over it a little.... well, make that a LOT.
I haven't had much success with the free downloads... musta had the part numbers wrong.
I'm afraid to take a trip to the John Deere retailer. Those John Deere parts costa lotta green... maybe that's why they paint them that color.
The good news is that it still runs fabulous and is still fun to drive. But maybe I could make it even funner!!!
So it may just be time to pull the sad looking tractor into the shop and see what I can do about it. Hmmmmmmmmmm.....
Time will tell.
Stay tuned.

Thanks for trying Doug... but I don't think that one will fit. Mine was different and it had a yellow stripe down the sides.
Mine also wasn't all scratched up -until yesterday. It was fiberglass, and just shattered in the cold weather we were experiencing yesterday. They sure don't make tractors like they used to.
It's too far gone now - even for duct tape (and I have LOTS of that!

aw, Dan. Just plaster some mud on it and paint it! You could replace the light with one of those big brass bucket headlights you have layin' around.

Now you did it Dan...you posted wanting a new tractor hood, now you'll get a ton of spam from third world countries trying to sell you a new OEM hood. Of course, the email will be in broken english and there won't be any manuals and it'll be an awful lot cheaper than a hood from a reputable dealer, but I'm sure it's not a scam or a pirated hood.

Why I clicked to read this I don't know, choices are always so varied, and time is scarce. But I must say I enjoyed the banter a lot, clever, creative, varied. Many times I don't enjoy it so much.
Seeing Don back (that is my first to find him on the board) is great. I missed him.
