i did a 36 ft HATTERUS for a guy in sarasota and his choice of name was MALA COSA. translates in english to "bad thing"!!! well 6 months goes by and he calls....want to change the name of the boat. i figured my lettering was peelin of something. then he tells me....since i had you put that name on the stern, everythings just gone downhill with the boat. one problem after another. motor, electrical(he lived on the boat)leaks, sump pumps dyin, all kinda "BAD THINGS"!!! so i found a pic of a "top hat", like fred astair wore in movies...and renamed it TOP HAT! all the problems ended.....heheheheheheeh.

Some people don't think twice when naming a boat. Especially when it comes to re-sale value!
Had a customer bring in a fibreglass speed boat he had purchased second-hand to take his young family water sking .... and the name in red 12" drop-shaded script down both sides ... "Sexual Fantasy" !!!!!
The red paint had stained into the gel coat. We spent hours sanding the lettering back and, in the end, had to cover it with a background panel before re-lettering on the new name. Part of the sale condition was the cost of this exercise paid for by the vendor!

We bought a used boat from some guy 19 years ago. He paid big bucks for a sandblasted sign on the transom. "Ms Tress". He said he spent more time on it than his wife liked.
The sign was so well made, we didn't take it off. It has got to be 23 years old, just needs to be washed.

Some years ago a customer had me remove an old name on a boat that had been siezed by the DEA and sold at auction. The name that came off? "POT LUCK"!
