A good client/contractor just called me, he has a client who wants his logo embedded into the carpet. Not on a walk off mat, but in the actual carpet. About 4-6 foot area.

Curtis is correct! The larger the logo the easier it is to do. 1. Make an exact patter...in reverse. 2. mark it on the back of the carpet and carefully cut it out. 3. do the same with the cobtrasting colored carpet. 4. they are fitted together and carpet tape is used to bind them together.
5. PUCKER UP before asking the price!

I've seen logos sculpted into carpet too. It works best with a real plush high end carpet.
We've done floors some of our projects. Generally I provide the carpet (or lino) man with a pattern and they take it from there.

Like Dan said...depending on the type carpet...I saw a show with this Chinese artist sculpting a design with some funny electric trimmers.
It looked real easy, as anything does when someone knows what they are doing.

Just to add this tidbit:
My friend is a steel artist and does alot of wildlife art. He made brands cut out of flat plate the shape of different animal tracks, heated them up and branded them in spots around his showroom floor. It is the real short commercial carpet and it stamped them right in there. He has Bear tracks going from his front door to the shop.
He was careful to wear a resperator and have adequate ventillation as well as wet towels on hand to quickly cool the carpet off.
Cool trick but not for the timid!

Before I started in signs years back I was a flooring installer. Si is pretty close, but theres alittle more to it than carpet tape.
I could do it for you, but I think you'd want to find somebody closer to you.
Thinking about it now, I should still be doing these, as they were the most fun part of that trade as a whole, and it does pay well because it is extremely time consuming.

we've tested inkjet printing onto carpet with success. our 16 ft. wide printer can take any length rolls. the carpet we tested on was the low pile variety, light color.

Howdy... I thought I would throw this out with our new process, we are getting reay to do some floor advertising in the UK and I made this sample as a test.
The original artwork of an old cigar label
and the finished product
They are comprised of 6 16" square tiles 3/8" thick using our photoengraved process called lithocrete...but it is pricey for one offs.
and what's so neat about it is that it is concrete and colored for exterior or interior.
