We're (Dad, my sister and me) going to San Francisco to a friend's house for dinner...

It's a cool old house, used to belong to Mayor Moscone, right next to Golden Gate park.

My famous chef brother is on the lo-carb kick, so no fun stuff from him....he's just got turkey and veggies planned.
Dad and I are bringing a raw veggie platter (my idea) and stuffing muffins (something we saw on food network)

Of course we HAVE to have the family tradition: creamy whipped potatoes and parsnips!!

Jim's at home enjoying to peace and quiet and being head chicken wrangler and horse waterer.

What are your plans?
A:)

Our Thanksgiving is a real team effort with Dave's family (Dave, his mom, dad and sister + her boyfriend) and with my mom and I.

Consequently, it'll be a FEAST, with way too much food for the 7 of us.

For starters a 23lb turkey, courtesy of my mom, AND a ham, courtesy of Dave's mom.

The rest of the menu is a little from all of us. It'll encompass smashed potatoes, gravy, yams, stuffing with sausage in it, steamed green beans, brocolli casserole, rolls, a pumpkin pie, a lemon merange tart, pumpkin cookies, and choc. chip cookies.

Wow, I'm feeling stuffed already!
(I ran 7.5 miles today so I'm diving into the smashed potatoes tomorrow!)

I just pulled the turkey outta the freezer to thaw, my T-day dinner isnt til Sunday when my sister gets here.

I realized, if I stick to the actual serving sizes for proteins (4oz of meat) I have enough turkey for 88 meals, not factoring in the bones. That should feed the 4 of us quite well.... anyone want some leftover turkey??? LOL

having the usual stuff here.. turkey, stuffing made with sausage, fresh cranberries, mashed taters, the yams with the brown sugar, cinnamon and pecans, sweet cornbread with kernels of corn, diced green chilis and a four cheese blend mixed in, fresh bread that has chunks of garlic cloves in it, corn... and of course home made pumpkin pie and a pumpkin/cheesecake swirly kinda thing from a new recipe this year.

**Edit: Might make some broccoli too.. Now hopefully Nettie won't send me email about not having anything green on the menu. [Wink]

A - Thanksgiving in San Francisco? I'm so envious. :-)

We'll be going to Clay's restaurant for dinner since he'll be working. He doesn't like to take the day off when his employees have to be there on the holiday.

There is always a huge seafood bar - crab, oysters, shrimp, etc.

A pasta station, pretty much however you like it - cooked as you wait.

All of the usual stuff - turkey, ham, roasted baron of beef. Stuffing, sweet potatoes, Blue Lake green beans with slivered almonds and Clay's homemade cranberry/orange sauce. Several different kinds of salads.

Then on the other side will be a huge table brimming with cakes, pies and petit-fours. They have the most amazing tiny key lime tarts and also a macadamia nut one. Those are my favorites.

I'm sure we'll cook our turkey and all the regular sides on Saturday or Sunday.

nah Mike ... you've got it down, no emails from the green police for you! [Smile]

Hey, if I made as much greens($) as I ate, I'd be a rich gal! [Roll Eyes]

Hey Michael, I'm curious about that russian garlic salad. Sounds good. I LOVE garlic.
I like getting ideas from other people's menus. I may be asking for some recipes here.

I forgot to add the cranberry stuff to my list.
We'll probably have that too.

Cookin a turkey breast side down with traditional stuffing with all the other traditional stuff.

But down heah in naw'lins we just gotta have some o' dem mudbugs, swimps, gator, possum, rattle snake, wabbit, amored diller, coon, or whatever else invites itself into da pan along wit dat big bird. How does it get inivited? Well, all it has to do is mosey across the back yard and it'l be in da kettle too.

A San Francisco tradition in the North Beach area for Thanksgiving is Dungeoness Crab. Season always opens there the week before this holiday so pots can soak long enough to yeild a great harvest. We have a crowd here and do the turkey thing on Thursday and the crab on Friday. We cover the table with newspaper and discard the shells onto the table, and when we're done, we roll up the paper and throw it into the fire. Oh, I found some awesome wild mushrooms today to put into the turkey stuffing.
