For the last few years, I have always painted an 8'x8' mural for the graduating class. They have a frame in school that holds two coroplast sheets. The 2005 grads' theme is, "Life Is an Open Road".
When we first talked, I quickly scetched an idea and they liked it. I imagined a hot rod type of car with a bunch of teens inside, zooming down the road.
Never thought it would be difficult to find a reference for drawing the car but it's impossible, nobody seemes to take pictures of that angle. I can manipulate or re-draw a picture but I can't draw a vehicle out of my head, it just never looks quite right even though it can be comic style.
What I am looking for is a photo, drawing, clipart or whatever can serve as a basis for the final picture. If you happen to have anything to share that would be fabulous.
You might have already guessed that it is one of those goodwill jobs. I have always charged them $250 because they're not my kids, but it is my community. I figure this way I can contribute but they won't think it isn't worth anything.
Whenever I need a reference image I used to go to pbase.com and use their keyword search. A while back I learned that Google also has the same thing - right above where you type in search words, click on a tab called "Images" instead of "Web". I put in hot-rod-rear and came up with links to 495 images. Most are peoples personal photographs, a few are professional and copyrighted. Great tool.

Doh, I was going to look through and post a few more, but accidentally closed my window. Better if you do it anyway. Try different search words for all new results. Good luck

Lotti, sounds like a good opportunity to take your digital camera and get on a roof somewhere and take a pic of your car! Sometimes I get my best inspiration from my own stuff.

Thanks, all. Joe, when I also punched in the word "rear", I got much better results. Who would have thought of that I like the picture you have chosen, that's the kind of vehicle I had in mind, outragously shaped. I also like this baby http://www.motorsportscenter.com/article_330.shtml There is a cool rear view picture in the lower part of the webpage. I'm getting there...
Hey lottie, why not get a few of the grads together, in a car they wanna use?? Then you stand on a roof, or a balcony while they park below, pose in various positions as your drawing suggestes and you snap away from all angles??!
You'll have great pics to draw from, and you could give some of the photo's to the kids for their year book or whatever!
