Hey... This is the first time that I have posted a topic here, and just had to share this.... Yesterday I was in Kentucky at Ft. Knox at my son's graduation from his basic and EIT training. 16 weeks of intense training to become a Calvary Scout in the US Army. It was probably the most awe-inspiring thing that has ever happened to me in my life. Talk about being so proud of my kid.....He had quit school last Jan. (spent a year in Colorado with his dad and kinda screwed up, moved back home with me a year ago Sept.) but then he went on to get his GED and enlisted. So it was kinda a double ceremony to me - high school and military in one. Anyway, it was just awesome, and really made you feel damn proud of this great country we live in. Those young men and women are truly great and diciplined. I've never been called Ma'am so much before in my life...hehehehee! And I'm not meaning to diminish young people who don't go in the military by any means either. He will now go to Ft Hood and eventually to Iraq, but we'll cross that bridge as we come to it... He's 18 and still seems so young for all this, but it is good. Just wanted to share this. It was a beautiful thing and on Veteran's Day , no less.

I know what you mean Kristie. Just went thru it in September with my oldest who had just turned 18. He is now taking his training for Combat Engineer. Quite an emotional moment!

The honor and pride you feel for this country and these kinds of young people, and well as our seasoned veterans, and those who have given their lives . . . all serving to continue to provide for what we take for granted . . . is unbelievable, outstanding...heart rending . . .almost impossible to put into words.
Thanks for sharing Kristie.

Kristie, it will change his life forever in such a positive way. Joining the military when I was 18 was one of the best decisions I ever made. You must be so proud. He is making us proud as we speak. Good to hear such news. Congratulations. Bob
