Gotta love it... These are some of the new packaging graphics to be used in a European anti-smoking campaign.

ACK!!!
[Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!]

MAN, I'm SO glad I quit a long time ago!!!

EVERY high school should have these pics as standard bulletine board material. [Wink]

When I was about 12, our class went to the pathology lab and they had a pair of smoker's lungs in a jar that looked like they'd been left on the grill WAY to long . . . just totally black . . . .
Mabey if I'd seen that first picture there Mike, I would'nt have still smoked another 7 years.

At the top where the "brand" goes, instead of one main brand, they should show like 100 smaller, all different brands. [Wink]

Thanx for the jolt.

The Brand is there Sheila as this is what will go on the actual cigarette packaging, the space for Brand is where the manufacturer gets to but their brand name.

I'm glad I quit smoking in 1963.

I did a booklet when I was an Illustrator for the Air Force Reserve Headquarters Command with all the various illustrations and photos of the bad stuff.

A friend who only smoked for a short while had to have part of his tongue removed because of cancer they say was caused from smoking.

My two sons, who are long haul truck drivers both smoke. I'm always trying to convince them of the dangers,
One of my boys quit for six years and started again.

Nowdays it isn't just the dangers healthwise, but the inconvenience the smokers deal with because of the no smoking laws.

A lady co-worker who had a lot of family problems told me she smoked because it was the only thing in her life she had control over. I told her she didn't have control, it was the cigarette that took her by the collar and dragged her outside in the cold and rain and said, smoke me.

That doesn't sound like she had control.

Its a dirty and stinking habit and I wish the best for anyone who tries to quit.

I e-mailed this to everyone in my addresses...

with the questions:

"Know anyone who smokes??

Know anyone who Does'nt smoke and you wanna let them know how glad you are they made that great choice?

Need motivation to QUIT smokin'?

This is a MUST-SEE . . ."

My X-husband's Mom, who died just before I met him with complications from M.S., was a dedicated smoker, and had already gotten the hole in her throat....and smoked her ciggarettes thru the hole . . . . [Eek!]

... doesn't matter, addicts won't stop buying cigs just because of some warning labels and ugly photos. They're ADDICTS, it's not THEIR brain making the decision at this point. It's all about the instant gratification, not the long-term effects. The tobacco companies are fully aware of this as well, which is why they'll agree to print that stuff on their packaging.

They have been doing that here for a couple of years already. I'm not sure it has made much difference, those who are addicted are immune to it, those who are young like the "gross factor".
If it does bother you, you can buy package sleeves to cover them. [Roll Eyes]
I give them credit for at least trying, though.

Two things . .

It's not my business to tell you what's healthy (or not) for You. Nor is it the Government's. It's also not my nor the Government's obligation (or shouldn't be) to cure you of any self inflicted illnesses.

And If you would realize a need to cease using any addictive and unhealthy thing then you have solved three quarters of the problem. The other Quarter is not using it!

Till August of 1986 I consumed 3 packs of Pall Mall Straights a day, (or at least burned a lot of 'em), started smoking when I was 13. I'm 63 now. My Mother was dying of Emphysema, in a nursing home. I visited her every day, and it didn't take long til I fugured out "I didn't need that habit!" Ran out of cigarettes one afternoon, had a carton at home, but decided to see how long I could go without one . . . haven't had one since!

I'm not a reformed smoker, don't give a damn whether someone smokes or not . . it's up to them. Just don't expect me to take care of you . . EVER!

...Good for Europe. I wish we could have the same approach here but the cigarette cos. have a well funded lobby in Washington, and our political leaders would rather (more than) 450,000 Americans continue to die (every year) than cut off their cig bribes.

...Tobacco is the worst. My mother is currently being killed by this drug. It's obscene that this scourge is allowed to continue...and the cigarette company- drug pushers are even allowed to operate. While our government is waging it's supposeded "war on drugs", this **** is still legal. Go figure the logic.

But just think Billy . . .
if nicotine, or alchohol were ILLEGAL, the good ol' guv'ment would go around GIVING people needles and creating "safe-houses where they can use their illegal drug-of-choice AND giving them disability checks even BEFORE they get their drug-induced illnesses such as lung cancer, emphysema, heart-rot, liver-rot . . . .
etc., etc., etc, . . .

[Roll Eyes]

OOP'S . . politics! Politics!

Ain't that ironic?
. . . Politics should'nt be pushin' in EITHER direction on this (and so many other things) . . .yet, no matter which way you believe you want THE GOVERNMENT to act . . .they have a counter-action available . . . .'cept for those of us who wish they'd stay OUT of just about everything . . . . .but alas, "just about everything" is taxable for all parties . . . Kelly, I'm not sure if in some backhand way that the main purpose of this packaging is not to protect the tobacco companies.
If the product is packaged thusly no-one can ever claim that they didn't know that the product is dangerous, thus limiting the liability for the tobacco companies.

Hmmm... put that in your pipe and smoke it ... [Wink]

I still find it puzzling to see the same government require a warning on cigarette packs and also subsidize the tobacco farmers????

Maybe if smokers had to pay the total cost of tobacco, including the part the government subsidizes now, and cigarettes cost $27 a pack we might have less smokers.

Can't forget the obese people either.

Hey how 'bout that? If people would just take care of themselves it would make things better for everyone!

Well here's a smoker posting in this thread. I hate them, but am addicted. The pictures don't werk on me. Sure they're horrible and horrific, but they just make me want a cig. I quit for three years and like a fool thought I could just have one occasionally. Now I'm back to a solid pack a day and when I'm having computer troubles(just switched to XP) like recently, I've been smoking almost 2. I'm trying to work around to the point of quitting again, but I need a window with a little less stress. Maybe putting it in writing would help.

I WANT TO QUIT SMOKING.

Thanks for the post. I'll show the pics to my nephews who are just starting. Maybe they'll work on them.

Really? Nobody knows what the horrible effects of smoking are by now?
Everybody knows. We also have taxed these things to death and they still are being consumed.

Let's show the results of abortions, bombing of cities, etc. and other things the government doesn't want to go away.

None are going to stop. Excercise your own self will on the things you can control and don't expect any other solutions from the outside.

David, Pimp, and others...who have the (rather negative) opinion that "ads such as these do'nt, or won't matter..." ...

Fine, mabey they don't . . .

But at least these ads ARE balance for all the ads promoting smoking with great-looking cowboys and sexy women . . . .

I wonder if you feel that those more attractive ads DO work???

Do ads . . .bill-boards... signs.... work period??

What do you DO for a living??

BTW, Are sales down???
