Years ago when we were first setting up our web presence I did a search for imaginationcorporation.com and it was available. But I decided to think about it a couple of days as we were still finalizing our name choice.
We settled on the name but by then the domain was GONE. We registered under .ca (stands for Canadian domain) instead and it has worked out well. The rub was the guy who did get the name (a fellow down in Florida) did nothing with it but instead sat on it for 10 years. He offered it for sale for $5K however.
This morning on a whim I did a search and the name was available once more. Needless to say I didn't hesitate this time.

I paid 300 for copyshop.ca to one of these 'name-sitters', I think I got off lightly at the time. As we deal exclusively with a local market the .ca was/is fine with us. I'm kinda proud to announce my citizenship with the .ca extention on my email addy, I'll never understand why .us has not really caught on with US companies.
My next project is named Rivendell Lodge and one of the first things I did was register the name.

Dan, Kinda makes you think that maybe someone has access to the searchs for Web Addresses, doesn't it? I can't believe that it was just coincidence that the name dissapeared after you looked it up. I think this is strange one: A former Chamber of Commerce, in my old hometown, let the web name lapse. It was snatched up by a porno site not long after that. I believe it was done as a sort of extortion scheme to have them buy the name back. They chose a new name. Luckily it wasn't that well used anyway.

I'm not really a conspiracy theory type guy. There was a real dorky type construction page for a long while when he got the site. He probably had great intentions, but lacked the resolve to carry them out.
We'll hang on to our .ca address indefinitely and just use it as a pass through address to the new .com which we will now market as our new addy.
Our site is undoubtably bookmarked by a ton of folks with all the marketing we've done over the years. I'd hate to undo that.
It's time for new letterhead, business cards, updated web addy's on the vehicles etc. and it's a good time for all that.
I've been planning a total redo of the web site this winter and have some funky new ideas for some a fresh look.
The new .com addy makes for a good excuse to get at it.

Dan, what a cool site. So much fun to visit. I am so glad that you got the name you rightfully should have!
Monte, if you ever do meet Dan, it's a neat experience. I admit to being intimidated when I saw all the monumental things he had done at the West Ed Mall. I expected him to be overly joyful, almost cartoonlike. I was wrong! He let Stevo and me into the jobsite like we were honored guests. He was covered in dust, spare in body, looking sort of like a Midwestern farmer to me. He has a ready smile and an intensity about him.
He is really quiet, observant, polite, and laid-back. That is (to me) why his stuff speaks so loudly. He doesn't need words to communicate his thoughts, they spring to life on ther own accord through his sketches.
His team is a close-knit unit, almost extensions of his own hands and heart. They were all busy working away, laughing and having fun and doing an awesome job.
I sure wish I could dig down inside myself and find the playfulness that I let die long ago. Dare to be Dan. Love....Jill

Jilly, aww come on... it's still in there somewhere.. just put your thoughts to sleep and let that little demon come out to play!
I tend to talk to myself as I'm working, outloud. Sometimes it's just pribish-babble and other times it's laughter when things go really well.
My mom says when I was a little kid, any time I went into my room and stayed there for hours on end it meant I was either taking toys apart (inquisitive), making my own toys (creative) or setting up a booby-trap (devious!) I'm still like that to this day but now the toys are powertools, welders and my poor li'l minitruck (it got a new coat of primer yesterday after cutting some more metal).
