We have a great book that published by Sign of the Times Publications called "Ghost Signs" by William Stage. It's all about the Walldogs. It talks about individuals and has great photos of signs from all over the USA. The stories about the old walldogs and the traditions of the brick walls is fascinating reading. I highly recommend it. In fact, we got two copies and donated one to our local library.

I remember seeing the American's Cup Coffee wall in color as a kid (the cover photo of Ghost Signs.) Beautiful! It seems that my folks may have a color photo of that wall, they took a bunch of old wall sign photos years ago. I need to find out about that.

Here's an instant article by my friend Bill Berberich, who sadly lost all his sign stuff in Ivan's flood: wall dog article I've posted it before but it's worth another look. Love....Jill

Thanks for your post Jill. For some reason that one hurts to read more than others. Everything he said is true. People really don't know what they are missing and hurting by the ordinances and lack of appreciation for the output of "walldogs".

Thanks for all the information. I have ordered a couple books mentioned including "Ghost Signs of Arkansas". Jill, the article on Wall Dogs is pretty cool. I really enjoy learning as much as I can about the history of that rare breed of paint slingers. Speaking of which...I need to get on over to The Hogtown Panel Jam...there is panels to be beautified.....take care
