I'm in the market for a 24" vinyl cutter to cut stencils for airbrushing motorcycle tanks and helmets. I really only need a smaller unit but after scouring the past posts I think I'm best off getting a 24" even if I don't need it right now.
I use Photoshop and Illustrator on a daily basis and would like to continue using Illustrator for cutting. My question is this: Has anyone ever used coCut along with Illustrator OR the Cutting Master software? In speaking with Signwarehouse.com they recommended the Graphtec 24" cutter because it comes with the Cutting Master software that apparently allows me to use Illustrator. A signmaking friend (Flexi-Sign and Corel user) suggested the Roland and coCut. Any advice on either software package would be much appreciated. I'm running Windows XP if that helps.
Thanks in advance-Stretch

Scott..if you are used to using Illustrator...keep using it...Corel will be as much of a pain for you to figure out as trying to figure out Illustrator is to me!!!
A Roland cutter will cut from any vector based software directly as long as you are on a PC and you install the Windows driver (provided with the cutter for free or a free download) for it. No need for another bridge program.

I have a Roland and a Graphtec, I reccomend the Graphtec. I also like Summas. I use Illustrator for design and I have FlexiSign as well as a few other programs. I used CoCut a few years back and I found it easy to use. I have tried the direct cutting, it works, but since I have the software I see no need for me, maybe an option if money is tight.

Sounds like both units work well from past posts. I'm looking for the one that integrates the best with Illustrator. I've got an email sent off to Roland, still need to do some research on the Graphtec software.
Thanks-Stretch

The response from Roland was "there's no reason it wouldn't work." I was hoping for more of a definitive answer if I'm going to drop over a grand on a vinyl cutter. When it comes to computers I've found many times things should work but just don't.

Cocut will make your life so much easier. I use it and can't understand why everyone isn't using it. I get stuff from clients in AI format and cut it right out of Illustrator using cocut pro. I first got cocut pro 9 and love it. Like it so much I bought the upgrade to cocut pro 12.
And, you will be able to use cocut with several other programs too.
