hey folks, my step-daughter sold me a Bio-Pro EMF (Electro Magnetic Frequency) harmonizer to protect my brain from harmful effects from prolonged cell phone use. I am somewhat skeptical, but I bought it anyway to help her get started with her new sideline distributorship of this product.

I hadn't heard anything about adverse effects from cell phones in so many years that I assumed there were none.

Anyone got any opinions on this?

YES ... as I understand from several surveys, prolonged usage has shown probability of adverse effects. In other words: "Don't walk around with a cell phone in your ear all day".

I know when mine rings when I'm at my computer, it definitely generates interferance on the puter! I have to move away to answer it.

I suppose it's like smoking. If I knew exactly what it was going to do to me 45 years ago, I wouldn't have started. Maybe today's generations in future will be walking around with brains like scrambled eggs trying to sue the companies that didn't issue health warnings with cell phones!

An aside on Cell Phones: We down in Oz have warning signs about using them in gas stations for obvious reasons. The other day I saw a guy next to me pumping gas when his phone rang. He answered and was actually stand in a puddle of spilt gas. Nothing happened! Thank God. Either the warnings are not warranted or the gas fumes hadn't reached the phone height [Frown]

Anyway, more people die talking on cell phones while actually driving !

There is this really cool fun TV show called Mythbusters on Discovery Channel, where they try to prove urban myths, such as the cell phone and gas station thing - which they proved false.

Just like with big powerlines, there will always be debate- but the phones are a hefty transmitter, and I heard somewhere Richard 'Virgin' Branson won't ever use one, only the 'hands-free' version, to try & put some distance between his head & the phone.

There seems to be enough controversy about them that there are no cell towers here. They flat don't work here. Folks in the tourist industry are applying pressure for them as well as industry. Then there are groups that oppose microwave transmission for health reasons. There are some that have medical problems and are sensitive enough to claim they feel them or their effects and moved here specifically to escape being sick all the time.

The cell phone radiated energy acts like a point source and declines with inverse square relationship. If you increase the phone distance from your head from 1 inch to 2 inches you have dropped the intensity by 4X. Double it again to 4 inches and you have dropped the intensity by 16X.

It is best to think of it as a candle in a dark room, not much happens until you get real close to it, but you can get burned.

ernie

PS- any chip that "protects you" would not work unless it cancles out the radiated signal. Then the phone would be useless.

Ok, I'm not a scientist in these fields, but I think that cell phones, like any other electrical device can only harm you if you have constant, sustained exposure. I don't think most of us have a cell phone strapped to our heads 24/7.

If you were to measure EMF's (electro magnetic fields) emitted from the various appliances in your home....you'd run out and buy a tent to live in. Your toaster, and all appliances emit a measurable radiation as I understand it. In fact, you're virtually surrounded in your own home by live wires and potpouri of radiation producing appliances.

I think off and on cell phone usage can't be much of a threat personally...but I may be wrong, as I'm no expert. But I sit in front of my big 21 inch Sony monitor for upwards 12+ hours a day, and I can't help but think that alone is radiating my face and turning my eyes into raisins.

Caffeine is probably more of a health threat...I quit that habit years ago and feel much better physically.

I think too, that some people are more prone to being adversely affected by various stimuli whether it be radiation or caffeine.

For instance, if I drank one cup of caffeinated coffee, my arms and legs would feel like "live wires" within 15 minutes. I'd get so shaky and nervous I'd feel like my body would explode from the inside out.

Whereas I know people who can drink 10 cups of coffee and say that it doesn't affect them at all nor keep them awake at night.

I think we need more time to see the long term ills of this modern day convenience.

Doug;

Greatest danger I've found is the fact the thing rings just when I have both arms elbow deep in paint, I struggle with wiping a hand semi-clean, finally get it on, and some "nice person" just wants to chat. The radiation from that causes my BP to shoot up, my eyes to glaze over, and steam to shoot outta both ears, ala Elmer Fudd when kissed by th' cwazy wabbit! If there were only a time-waster chip...sigh.

And Todd...drinkin' ten cupsa coffee doesn't afec...afffffec...afeeeeeett...afffectttttt...affect me! ANYBODY WANNA' RUN AROUND TH' BLOCK A HUNNERT TIMES OR SO?!!!!

Well up until last year I have been building cell phone towers for the last 17 years (I got sick of the adult day care aspect of owning a construction company). I have had a cell glued to my head for the majority of that time. Not to mention all the live towers that I have worked on in that time. I have yet to find anyone in the business who has had any problems from exposure to cell phone RF. Now High frequency Micro Wave on the other hand is very dangerous. For the most part the public isn't exposed to RF levels at anything above 3 GHZ.
Personally I use a Verizon wireless cell phone instead of a PCS as cell frequency is 800 to 900 MHZ, where PCS phones operate at a much higher 2 to 3 GHZ.
The Higher the frequency the closer it is to your MicroWave oven.

There may well be some substance to the concern. Here's a good article on the matter. popular science

Cnet publishes reviews on a lot of cell phones and compares the radiation levels of each model. Cnet charts

Another good article on the subject. how stuff works article the links page at the end is worth looking into.

I did'nt have time to read all the responses to this post, Doug.
But I always tho't that was a joke or somethin'.

I would like to see CLEAR, UNDENIABLE evidence that such a "risk" exists. [Roll Eyes]

I fear the real risk of any damage sustained by anyone who uses a cell phone THAT MUCH is ears that look like red-lights and are pressed too close to the head.

I think that anyne who wants to blame over-use of the cell phone for brain-damage . . . one, has entirely TOO many minutes on their plan, and two, is ALREADY brain-damaged, and/or are trying to get up a class-action for brain-damaged people.

In closing, I would like to palinly state that I do not believe and am seriously scoffing and totally skeptical about this subject.

I'm still a skeptic myself, but thanks for the links Mike. I do want to get more educated opinions, or actual research results because I don't want to see my step daughter invest in something if everyone else is going to think its a scam or a joke.

just was talking to my brother the other day, as he reads a ton of scientific mags and researches stuff, and he said it does show that the area near the cell phone does show a warmth of that part of the brain. So there is some action from the use. What entails after that, not too much has been proven, but, just with that, you can figure there is some type of effect in the brain.

She will probably do quite well provided she seeks out those that feel that since they dont turn on a light in the room that they're
in they can actually lessen global warming by .0000000000000000000001543th degree and now the polar ice caps are safe b/c they sit in the dark whenever possible. In reality.....plain english shes more than likely gonna lose her as*...the only good living to be made from this is by the owner if this "buisness opp" by getting people to invest their hard earned $$ into schemes such as this that can hals half the s and is selling them cellular kits that keep the secret microwaves away...think cellular amway. It will have a dramatic effect on her wallet...by lightening it. Sorry but this has "earn $80k a year working from home---easy money" i'm soon to be in an infomercial at 3am written all over it....where it will probably do very well.

I concur. The protection chip thing is likely a Scam--the kind we've all seen a hunnert of. But believe radiation is harmful. Mike Milos is probably the most informed person on this thread. He's got me worried about my 2.4 Ghz cordless. (Don't use it often). I dont have a cell for a variety of reasons. Money is the main one. Radiation is on the list somewhere too though. Radiation is lethal and invisible...it's just part of the light spectrum (i think). A part outside our eyes' ability to see. So, its shooting through us like bullets (ultraviolet rays from the sun cause skin cancer by shooting gazillions of holes in us every day). Cell-phone radiation is concentrated in the ear/brain area. It specifically shoots through your brain--tearin' up DNA and cells all along the way.

A lead helmet would drastically reduce the risk but would be somewhat inconvenient.

Was my impression that brain cancer was the particular concern...not just general brain damage.

Cell phones can be very dangerous in the wrong situation. I just saw a sticker on a biker helmet that said "You'd probably drive better with that cell phone shoved up your a$$" Pretty much describes how I feel.
