Major stuffup! I think it also affects Internet Explorer- it's never been the same on our w98 box since I trustingly ran the update.

Im guessing that's why M$ decided not to release it "officially" until later.
Actually. All this has been discussed on several of the BBS's related to software security and reverse engineering. These probs were already discovered by the unofficial beta testers long ago.
And its rather funny that the reverse engineering groups have distributed a working "unofficial" XP SP2..

Microsoft is really going out on a limb with this update. Ever since my other post on this subject, I have really look into the subject. This list of programs that does not work is only the tip of the iceberb I am sure. Those are the programs that are most popular. Think when they get lower on that list. This update, unless M$ really does something soon, will cause bigger problems that 2K bugs were going to! Sounds like fun!

There are a few real standouts on it that look like another attempt by the "Gates Gang" to make them the only game in town.
Interesting that Yahoo Instant Messenger, the front runner agaist Microsoft's own MSN Messenger is on the list. Yahoo won't work either, so I guess it's off to MSN again and again. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Looks like Microsoft has finally found a way to end the arguement over Kazaa....by making it incompatable with the update and summarily killing it off. Well, I guess they really are in charge of everthing after all.
if this is a security fix, how come Norton's Antivirus is on this list, along with a few pop up blockers and spyware detectors? "Coming soon...Microsoft pop up blocker and spyware killer...marketed just like the browswer was by pakaging it within Windows. Anyone remember how Netscape reacted to that in court?
Ok, it's a rant, but after watching Slick Willy Gates an the boneheads at Monopolysoft twist the windows operating system to benifit themselve way before we the end users, I guess I'm just tired of it. MS sends out these "free beta versions" and the majority of the people who download it do so for one reason...to see how to make it stop ticking.
As long as Microsoft continues to make every update a sacrificial lamb and toss it out to the hacker community....
... we get what they deserve. More problems.

The problems start when an author does not adhere exactly to the M$ specifications. Lots of softare writers used a few cheats and workarounds and shortcuts. Hence they are getting caught in this update.
KAzzaa uses a number of access ports to operate. The new firewall closes nealy all those ports. They can be reopened thru setting exceptions to those closed ports to reopen them. Not really a serious problem .
