red for gold leaf....look at a fire truck...hheheheheh....black is the best....almost any good vibrant color will "jump" when applied to black. if your paintin it...NO...black and dark colors are hard to cover in one coat of the new one shot. for painting white is best.

Either one will work just fine. However, if you are doing gold leaf on white, do yourself a favor and use the gold leaf for an outline...looks soooooooo much better than using a gold leaf letter.

Drove a black shop truck for 3 years. Loved how it looked when it was clean... but it was a pain to keep clean.
I originally thought a bright yellow might show dirt just as bad, but walked up to a bright clean looking truck on the lot & discovered it had quite a bit of dusty residue that would have shown up like a blotchy grey on a black truck... so I bought it.
